Sweet Potato vines growing through the deck

The vines have reached the top the trellis and is now growing through the deck slats. I was suprised its able to squeeze through and not worried about it hurting the deck. I'll cut it back when I harvest in a month or two.

They seem happy with this, I have to be careful not to step on them. But they are getting alot of sunlight where they got through.

I guess there is enough space to slip through. They got through about a month ago and have been on the move since then.

It's amazing how quickly these vines grow. I can come back a day or two later and see the leaves are much bigger.

Maybe I'll save these leaves to eat. I'd hate for them to goto waste. But the plant is benefiting from them so I'm not concerned. Just amazed they worked their way through the decking.

When I was very little we had a grape vine. It was very small when it was first planted, but then it got too big and we built a gazebo for it. We ate grapes in the summer. 🍇 👌 They were dark red grapes and very sweet. It was shade for us in the hot summer months and it was nice to sit there and chat especially in the cool weather in the evening. I remembered my childhood when I saw his photos. I would love to be able to go there again. ❤

That sounds like an amazing vine you had there, I hope to grow grapes one day. I do have wild Muscadine vines but they have never produced. I bet they were real tasty being fresh off the vine. And yeah I feel ya on the shade they provide, its always nice to have that shade and the nice green color they cast when the light comes through the leaves.

Yes, the grapes were delicious. I hope the plants you grow produce fruit. Thank you for your long and beautiful answer. It is very nice to feel similar things.

They are seeking sunlight and they needed it to make bigger spuds especially if you would water the base, but they are establishing roots system as they creep unto the earth/soil @solominer :D

Yup, during the summer their growth accelerates dramatically. They get rained on under the deck with the deck slat gaps. But I water them when we get dry spells once in awhile. Now they are starting to slow down with the cool weather. Im starting to see a couple yellow leaves here and there. Planning on waiting a few more weeks or month till the freeze shows up.
