Building The Garden Railway, Part 8, More Weed Barrier Cloth Under The Track
Hello, hivers! Welcome!
In my last post about building the garden railroad, I talked about working on the big curve at the back of the garden by the alley. For this post, I'll be talking about working on the other end of the railroad, the straight section that goes to the greenhouse.
At this point, I had decided to put weed barrier cloth under this section of track. The grass and weeds were starting to grow up in the track, and I knew that it would be difficult to cut the grass between the rails.
When I started working on this section of track again, it looked like this. I had already flipped over some of the paver blocks to get them out of the way when I took this picture.
In order to put the weed cloth in place, I had to move the track out of the way first. Then I could start to roll out the weed cloth.
I worked my way down to the small curve, picking up the track sections and rolling out the weed cloth. I also put the track sections onto the weed cloth as I worked my way down to the curve.
Once I had the weed barrier cloth rolled out all the way down to the curve, I was able to put the track back together.
Once all the track was back in place, I started getting more pavers to line the edges of the track and hold down the weed cloth. I hauled them from the alley with the flatcar.
I also started hauling more gravel from the previous railroad location to spread out on the new railroad.
I used a big screen to sift the small pebbles and dirt out of the gravel before moving it out to the railroad.
It took several weeks to move pavers and gravel for this section of railroad due to garden work and also working on other parts of the railroad at the same time.
All of this work took place in July of 2021. I also worked on the other end of the railroad in July, finishing the big curve out to the alley. That will be the subject of the next garden railroad post.

It's really coming together and the pavers and gravel give it such a finished look.
Yes, I do like the way the pavers look along the railroad. They also help hold the gravel so that it doesn't end up in the grass.
This is super cool. I love home projects like this. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result. It's obvious you're putting a lot of work into it, and it looks fantastic!
Is this for hauling things to and from the garden? I'm thinking that must be one of its intended uses anyway.
If there's any young ones in the family that visit, they will probably want to take a ride that 😅
Yes, hauling stuff for the garden is one of the primary uses for it. I also ride on the car occasionally. 😀
