Outlast: My first experience with a horror game

Well, technically this game isn't my first experience playing a horror game. If I remember correctly, the first horror game I played was that Slenderman game that everyone played in 2013, I remember trying to play that thing on my previous desktop computer with 1 GB of RAM, I was only 10 years old, so the slowness of playing at less than 10 fps didn't take away the scares.

But, I can say with total certainty that Outlast is the first horror game I've been able to play in a decent way (Well, I'd say about 30+ FPS is decent) on my laptop. Red barrels gave away this game for free when Outlast 2 was released, a friend let me know about it and I could take advantage of it to have my first Steam game :) Yeah, my first and only legal game so far. Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy Steam games

But well, I know that incredible moments are coming for Steem, as a user who entered when the market started to go down, I'm really excited to think that I will be part of all this when the price of STEEM goes up. So maybe I can think about uploading gameplays in the future when I can buy a GPU and Steam games :). So, for now, I can give you great content based on the experiences I've had with the resources I have :) Thank you for reading my content, by the way <3

WTF is Outlast?

Talking about Outlast is talking about anxiety and fear, it's a really fucked up horror game that has given a unique way of playing horror games. It's a game created by Red Barrels in the year 2013, by that time the graphics of this game were considered INCREDIBLE, when I saw gameplays of this game I was simply fascinated by how horrible and beautiful the details were in the game (now that I'm writing this, I notice that it's a bit weird that a 10 year old kid liked this kind of games).

Outlast occurs at the Mount Massive Asylum, a place where the Murkoff Corporation conducts horrible experiments on its patients, but no news has come to light that could damage the corporation's reputation. It wasn't until a journalist named Miles Upshur walked into the asylum and experienced hell for himself. The game is based on saving our lives by escaping from all the enemies. It seems that we are dealing with a useless person who doesn't know how to fight or defend himself in any way, so we can only escape and hide from the things that are in the asylum.

What makes Outlast unique is that feeling of not being able to do anything when you meet an enemy. I personally had a horrible experience while running away from enemies, even in the gameplays I saw before I could play it I felt the despair of knowing that a 6-foot fat man was chasing me to rip my head off. Outlast is a flagship game when it comes to talking about horror games, it puts you in a place where your options are only running and hiding, which I loved and hated about that game. That's without adding the glow that you can play with, even if you play at maximum glow you won't be able to see a shit, that's why here's your lifeline: your camera.

The camera is one of the unique features of Outlast, is a camera like any other, this has the peculiar option of activating the night mode, so we can see much better what we have in front of us, although I'm not sure that this is completely good. But it's not all good, the camera requires batteries, and if we run out, we run out of camera. When I first played the game I had to play practically blind because of that, it's really a delusion to be aware of the batteries while trying to escape from a maniac.

I hate games like this, but they're also fantastic. What good is a game that makes you feel indifferent while you play it? Personally I think games are made to take you to another world and Outlast is no exception. If you want to experience an incredible horror game that will fill you with anxiety and worry, Outlast is made for you, it's too desperate to run from someone who is following you to kill you in a grotesque way, only Outlast conveys that feeling in a really scary, but unique way. Incredible game, maybe soon I will talk about its sequels :)

I, too, got Outlast on my Steam account for free when it was given away, but I haven't played it yet. I think it was also around 2013 (I was 16 then) when I last played a horror game. Either Amnesia: The Dark Descent or SCP: Containment Breach. I haven't built up my mood for horror games since... Now to think of it, I should. :P

Horror games are not a very pleasant experience, but intense, if you want to encourage yourself to a few scares, Outlast is waiting for you :)

Good thing to see you enjoying this game mate. I played it a few months ago and it was intense!

I must recommend you a short game with a beautiful story. It is probably the most touching game I have ever played. Its name is What remains of Edith Finch. If you have the opportunity to play it do it, trust me you won't regret it.

Another cool game is Skyrim and/or Enderal (a Skyrim independent mod), if you enjoy western RPGs Bethesda's games are a must. Enderal is newer but it uses the same graphic engine from Skyrim so the graphics are very similar.

Hey, bro! First time I hear that game, I just take a look at it and see it costs $19 on Steam, I'll have to turn to the dark side to play it :)

I've heard the name Skyrim too much, but I never dared to play it, the only RPG game I've played was one called Fable: The lost chapters, it's super old, but it was very entertaining.

I'll have to turn to the dark side

lol for a moment I thought I was reading the lyrics of the Darkside song from Alan Walker ^^

I also played Fable 2 and 3 more than 10 years ago, they were awesome but Bethesda's games are way different. They are bigger and could easily last more than 100 hours of gameplay.
