Today the Turtwig Community Day took place, at some places in the world it might actually still be taking place or even have to begin, as it took place today from 11 am to 2 pm local time. With the summer mostly being over Niantic has changed the times back to the regular Community Day times we were used to. In the summer it was from 4 pm to 7 pm so we could avoid the hot afternoon sun.

With this Community Day they added Shiny Turtwig to the game, as well as Shiny Grotle and Shiny Torterra. Evolving a Grotle into Torterra during the event, or up to two hours after, teaches it the Charged attack Frenzy Plant. Previously it was until 1 hour after the event that you could evolve and get the move, so now they extended it to two hours.

Before the event started I had 76 Turtwig as caught in my Pokédex. This event featured triple Catch Stardust, so I activated a few Star Pieces throughout the event.

When I was walking around for a little bit I decided I'd give it a try to stream Pokémon GO on Twitch. Which I then did for the rest of the event and after as well until I was going home. I had some people show up in chat and talk about the event too.

Not too long into the event I saw a Team GO Rocket encounter at a nearby Pokéstop and went to do it, they started out with a Turtwig and had an Ivysaur and Vileplume too. I got a Turtwig from that encounter. Halfway during the event I encountered my first Shiny Turtwig!

Throughout the event I had a few more Team GO Rocket invasions nearby that I did. One had two Drowzee and a Kadabra, the other two both started out with a Turtwig too with one of them having a Torterra as the last Pokémon. From these encounters I also got Shadow Turtwig every time. With these encounters I finally reached the silver medal which is rewarded for defeating 100 Team GO Rocket Grunts. These Turtwig were all bad IVs but I did Purify one so I could have it listed as Purified in my Pokédex.

When the event was over I started trading the Turtwig above 800 CP that I kept for other Turtwig of a high level. To try and get some better ones. I also ended up trading my worst of the two Shiny Turtwig for another one. I did roll better stats, but for both the end result was still a 1*.

I then evolved my best Shiny Turtwig into Grotle and then into Torterra. Both of them were new Pokédex registries, as I hadn't encountered a wild one for either before and never evolved them yet. I messed up for taking a screenshot with Grotle's Pokédex registry though so I only have the one for Torterra here.

From trading a lot of Turtwig I was able to get 1 Lucky Turtwig. Unfortunately it wasn't that high, having 89% IV with 13 attack and for the other one it was even lower. So what I decided to do was evolve my best Shiny Turtwig to Torterra and then evolve a Turtwig I still had from longer ago which is a 93% with 15 attack. I now have two Torterra with Frenzy Plant.

After the event was over and I had done all the trading and evolving too, I was walking around for a bit. Slowly headed home. Then I see a Turtwig had spawned near a Gym, with the weather increasing Grass-type spawns. I clicked on it and it was a Shiny !! So I ended up with a 3rd Shiny :D My Pokédex now shows 226 Turtwig caught after the event. This number isn't entirely accurate as I also traded a whole bunch of Turtwig, which make the number of caught go up by 1 per Turtwig received from a trade.

What did surprise me with looking at the Pokédex is that it didn't display "Purified: 1" in there. I could swear that I purified the first Shadow Turtwig that I got, so either there is a bug in the game where it's not adding it to the Pokédex for Turtwig properly or I just didn't purify it and thought I did. Which is possible, I didn't get a lot of sleep so I could've been forgetful about purifying one.

None of the wild Turtwig I caught were above 90% today, which was too bad. The highest IV I had caught was 89%. So I traded away all of those 3* ones too as they were too low. I didn't evolve my Lucky Turtwig either. I'm assuming that just like last year, we'll have a weekend featuring all the Community Day Pokémon of this year, and they can learn their Community Day move then too. So before evolving more Turtwig to Torterra I'll just wait and see if I get better ones by then!
