Piplup Community Day

Yesterday the monthly Community Day took place. This time it featured the water started from gen 4, Piplup. Which added Shiny Piplup, Shiny Prinplup and Shiny Empoleon in the game. Usually the Community Day starts at the same local time anywhere in the world, so for everyone it would normally start at 11 am and go through 2 pm in local time. However Niantic decided to try something new this time around and for the northern hemisphere they let the event run from 11 am through 2 pm local time and in the southern hemisphere from 3 pm through 6 pm local time.

For me this meant the event was live from 11 am through 2 pm, which is the time I'm used to anyway. Except for the different times during summer. There seems to have been a little bug with it though, because just past 6 pm my time I received a notification that I had 2 hours left to evolve Prinplup to Empoleon to learn the Community Day exclusive move. That's a notification which should've only gone out to people in the southern hemisphere, as for me the Community Day had already ended 4 hours prior to that.

Just like with any Water-type starter Pokémon the Community Day exclusive move taught the move Hydro Cannon to Empoleon when evolving Prinplup during or up to two hours after the Community Day ended. As an extra bonus this Community Day had 1/4th hatch distance for any Eggs placed in incubators during the event. I decided to place a few 10 km Eggs in incubators so they'd hatch faster.

For the Community Day I walked around with the friend I often walk around with while we play Pokémon GO. We also saw a lot of other people we know in the city that we sometimes stopped to chat with or who sometimes joined us for a little bit while walking around.

I managed to encounter and catch 3 Shiny Piplup during the event. Which is enough to be able to have Shiny Piplup, Prinplup and Empoleon. They were all 0* or 1* for their IVs. Every Community Day I prefer to trade one of the Shiny from that day, if I've caught more than one at least. I traded one of the worst IVs vs one of their worst IVs and we both got a 2* IV one from the trade. You can see mine in this screenshot.

After the event I traded the higher CP Piplup that I kept and that didn't have good IVs so that I could try to get some better ones out of the trade. I did succeed in catching some 3* IV Piplups out of which one was a 96% and the rest weren't so good so I also traded them. From the trades I got an 850 CP Piplup that was also high IV and I would check out properly after all the trades were done. In this screenshot you can see my Piplup I had left after trading.

Now the time has come to evolve some. Since I didn't find a wild Prinplup or wild Empoleon yet I didn't have either of them registered in the Pokédex. I evolved my best IV Shiny Piplup to get a Shiny Prinplup Pokédex registry and one for Shiny Empoleon too.

I checked out the other Piplup too and see which ones I would evolve. The 850 wasn't as high CP as the 669 CP so I decided to transfer it and then evolve the 669 CP. My 544 Piplup was the 96% with 13 attack that I caught during the event. Other than those I also evolved two Piplup that may be good for PvP so I evolved them both to Empoleon and at some point I'll likely try to find out which one is best for which league and possibly power them up. That 96% Piplup I caught during the event reached 1478 CP after evolving and can thus be used in the 1500 CP league.

This time I didn't forget to take a screenshot of the Pokédex entry to check how many Piplup I caught, hatched or traded before the event. It stood at 64 caught before the event. After the event, and with the Shiny and like 3 regular Piplup trades during the event it was now at 201. Then I did the traded for the Piplup I kept for trading and ended up at 239 caught. So I did 38 traded after the event.

As you can see my Lucky count was at 1 before the event and still at 1 on the last screenshot of Piplup's Pokédex registry. So I was quite unlucky as I didn't get any Lucky Piplup during the trades after the event. Since my only Lucky Piplup was at just 14 CP and not such good IVs I decided I wouldn't evolve it. Maybe I'll get a better Lucky Piplup throughout the year.

How did your Piplup Community Day go?
