Chimchar Community Day; win an SBI share

This Saturday, November 16, the monthly Community Day on Pokémon GO took place. It featured the Fire-type starter from gen 4, Chimchar the chimp Pokémon! With this Community Day Shiny Chimchar has been added into the game, as well as Shiny Monferno and Shiny Infernape. It took place from 11 am to 2 pm local time, with a bonus of 1/4 hatch distance on newly incubated Eggs. Evolving a Monferno to Infernape during the Community Day, or up to two hours after, results in an Infernape with the exclusive Community Day move Blast Burn.

I started the event in the city center close to where I live like I always do and immediately ran into a few people I know. Most of the time I was walking around with the friend I usually walk around with. Sometimes we'd split up for a bit if one of us was talking to someone else for a bit, but we'd find each other again shortly after. After more than two hours into the event we ran into a guy that was just walking around on his own and who asked if he could join us. So we let him walk around with us. During the event his 5 km egg hatched and it had a Shiny Mime Jr. in it!! Which he showed us. That's the first time I saw the Shiny Mime Jr. in the game so it was great to see!

This Community Day it didn't take as long as most of them for me to encounter my first Shiny. As I had my first Shiny Chimchar encounter at 11:19, so only 19 minutes into the event! :D This could be the first of many possible Shiny encounters.

Shorty after the first hour of the event was over, that friend and I once again approached the Pokéstops near the library and two of the Chimchar there that I clicked on in a row were both 559 CP. Which was quite surprising to me! Then a bit later when we were near some other Pokéstops and a Gym, I saw another 559 CP Chimchar! That was really crazy to find 3 of the same CP so close in a row. You can see them in the screenshot here.

At the end of the event I checked all my Chimchar to see how many Shiny I had and which was my best IV Chimchar. I apparently ended up with 10 Shiny Chimchar, that's pretty neat! Most of them had 0 or 1 star, except for the last one that I caught which had 2 stars. Overall not particularly good IVs unfortunately.

Then it was time to trade some Chimchar to try and get some good ones. The best one that I caught in the wild had a 93% IV which is one that I kept. Other than that I threw most of the 0 to 2 star IVs that were below 450 CP away as well, except some of the ones near the end of the event. So all of those Chimchar were up for trade, except she 93% one. I also traded one Shiny Chimchar for another one to try and get better stats, unfortunately it didn't really end up with better ones than the highest IV one that I had.

After all the trading was done it was time to check some of their stats again and then evolve a few so I could get Infernape with Blast Burn. I never evolved Chimchar before, as I knew it would get a Community Day, and I haven't encountered any wild Monferno or Infernape. So that means they would both be new Pokédex registries. Evolving a Shiny Pokémon and having a new Pokédex registry for it shows the Shiny in the registry animation, so the first one to evolve was a Shiny Chimchar! Here you can see my Shiny Monferno and Shiny Infernape end of evolution and their Pokédex registries.

From the trades I did I got 2 Lucky Chimchar. I already had one Lucky previously which was a 89% and these from the trades were 93 and 91%. So I decided to transfer the 89% Lucky to the professor. Then I evolved the 93% Lucky into Infernape to have Monferno and Infernape as Lucky in the Pokédex too. I decided to also evolve 2 other Shiny Chimchar into Infernape so that I could potentially trade these to other people perhaps during a Lucky Trade if they would like to have a Shiny Infernape with Blast Burn. Since I had enough candy for it anyway. This time I didn't evolve a normal one, because my highest IV was 93% and that's what I also had for the Lucky one, so I decided to only evolve the Lucky Chimchar and some Shiny.

I forgot to take a picture of the amount of Chimchar I had caught before the event started unfortunately, so I can't compare that one with the one I took at the end of the event. It's not entirely accurate though as it includes the trades I did after the event too.

In December the Community Day will be 2 days and feature all the Pokémon that had a Community Day this year. If I get some better IV Chimchar by then I will definitely keep one to evolve that weekend to get Blast Burn on it. The main Pokémon I'm interested in that month are Bagon for entirely missing its Community Day and Ralts as that is one of my favourites and I had almost no time to play during that one.

Which Pokémon are you most interested in catching with next month's Community Day weekend?
