I Loved the Story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

I always preferred Third over First Person Shooters. I loved when the character I play has a separate identity and personality than me. I usually want to play their story not mine.

While I played some Call of Duty games (just a bit.) The most recent Modern Warfare is the only game in the franchise that I played from the start to finish.

Few weeks ago, my brother who's fan of Call of Duty games bought the game for our PS4. I touched upon this in my last Screenshot Saturday article. He wasn't interested in the multiplayer aspect of the game. He had COD Mobile for that. So we decided to sell the game after we both finish it.

Even though CoD:MW is short, it took me a while.
I only played in short sessions in separate days.

The game mainly follows the struggle between the resistance of the fictional country, Urzikstan, and the Russian invasion led by a general called Barkov, a terrorist group called Al-Qatala (The Killers,) and the Americans who caught up in this fight.

I loved every moment of the game. How they presented the story, how way you can finish any mission in any way you want, the times when I lost and approached the task differently, and the fact some Arabs are involved with the protagonists.

Some parts were awe-inspiring, others were painful to watch. Early in the game there was a scene where the player had to save hostages, but one of them had a timed bomb that has few seconds to detonate. I watched helplessly as the Captain threw that man out the window to save the rest of the hostages. Ouch!

While my favorite character is Captain Price. I also loved Hadir. While he does some questionable things in the story. All he does, is for his sister Farah's sake. While she cares more about driving the invasion out of her land, the correct way.

I usually play video games in English but the Arabic localization of Modern Warfare is so good and it felt at home with the story. Some parts that were changed from the original gave better meaning in Arabic language context. An example of this is when Price said he's going on a "Black Mission," the Arabic subtitled it as a "Secret Mission," because the word Black is never used for that sense in Arabic.

While the voices are in English, Urzikstanians speak in some Arabic dialect which feels like that of Syria.

Overall, Cod Modern Warfare was a good experience for me and made me want to go back and play the previous games in the series. (Especially, the original MW trilogy.) The campaign may be short but some games pad their time to the detriment of the experience and I'm glad this game didn't do such thing.

What do You Think?
