Holybread First Impressions

avatar

Another steem blockchain game has gone live and I wanted to share my first Impressions with you. If you are new to blockchain games there are many places where you can get some information, perhaps the biggest difference to non-blockchain games is that you actually own the things (whatever they might be) in the game. For example, in splinterlands it is the cards you receive and in holybread it is the heroes and items. As they are bound to your account and are unique they actually hold some (monetary) value. This new element makes games (at least to me) more meaningful, as I often wonder why I am playing games once they feel like a grind. Of course, that question may still arise for blockchain games, but as steemmonsters has shown the items earned can actually become quite valuable. So at the very least you might make a bit of money.

So without further ado here are my impressions.

The pros:

  • it's a blockchain game! Additionally to the heroes you upgrade you receive "breadcrumbs" which you can trade on steem-engine
  • the Ui is clean and simple. The game is straight forward
  • there are different things to do like quests or arena fights as well as a store to buy and sell items.

the cons:

  • the quests seem way too shallow and are not very engaging. Sure, it's nice to just wait for a reward, but if there would be something you should do to earn a reward it would be much more interesting.
  • arena fights are okay, but they also seem to shallow. In Steemmonsters there are at least some tactical decisions which change a fight. I am sure this could be improved as well. Also it is often unclear what kind of opponents I am facing.
  • are breadcrumbs just used for exchanging them on steem-engine? I could think of more uses for them. Baking them into a bread would also seem to be a good idea.. ;)

The quests....

I would definitely say that this game has potential, but there is still a lot of work ahead. An app would also be amazing, but that is probably still a long way down the road and only if people continue engaging with the game.

Yes, a little too simple in my opinion, but with a little work I think it could get more interesting

Year it is... but in their latest post they revealed that things are very primitive still. Should get more interesting in a couple of months I hope
