Who doesn't like sweet potatoes?
Sweet potato is considered as one of the cheapest and common food in my country, Indonesia. It is easy to grow and available anytime of the year, colourful and easy to proceed to be delicious meals.
my family's favourite dish made from orange sweet potato, KOLAK.
BUT...
I won't talking about the benefit of sweet potatoesπ my concern is to the saviour of lazy day at the kitchen, limited shopping budget and the need to linger on webtoons IS the leaf!
about 200 grams young leaves, wash it thoroughly, vines grow close to the ground
This leaf taste a bit bitter when it still raw, but after boils it for couple minutes, the taste is soft and mild similar to spinach and water spinach.
I never knew that we can consume the leaf, before π
Okay.. finding the leaves selling at any markets in my hometown was a mission impossible. I've never seen people selling or buying the leaves there, it's not a popular veggie for us.
Few years ago, when I still working and a friend hospitalized because of the dengue fever, my colleague brought a small bunch on the leaves and asked my friend's family to boil it with 2 cups of water and let the patient drink the water few times a day. The result was his blood plasms get to the standart number within a day, amazingly.
I found the leaf is selling by the vegetables venders around my neighborhood and suddenly became my saviour on the lazy dayπ
Have you ever use the sweet potato leaf in your menu? Well.. the benefits of the leaf is not a joke! You can check it on google or here.
It tooks only few minutes to prepare this veggieπ just boil it with some water till it soften and prepare the peanut's sauce. Get the boiled leaf out and filter the water.
hot rice and boiled yam leaves with spicy peanut's sauce means heaven
the natural blood booster!
When I was young, I believe that papaya juice is the best blood booster before the blood donor day, but it never worked on me. Now that I found this blood booster, I will drink it up before the blood donor's day next monthπ.
How is the taste of the sweet potato leaf boiled water? Well.. without any additional spices, salt or sugar which we don't need it, it taste like water with a smell of green grassπ, spinach or water spinach boiled water taste. The colour is dark green to black.
While the leaf already has multiple healthy benefits, the root is amazing and even the boiled water of the leaf still useful, what else do you need from this veggie?

This is fantastic my Dear Cici! To bad that sweet potatoes is are very difficult to grow here in Canada. They are available in supermarkets because they are imported from Southern parts of U.S. Nevertheless, it is great information for people who live in warm climates and can grown them in their gardens ππΏπ
Aahh.. thank you @lenasveganliving.. sweet potatoes really need warm weather but not too much sun eitherπ many big producers in Indonesia grow the sweet potatoes in highland or somewhere close to the mountain where soft soil and less rats around. My sweet potato never made it to grow properly in my garden because the rats dig it out.
Rats? Oh my gosh!!! That's sucks! You need a big cat, lol.
I approve of this plant-based posts.

Such a great way to use the whole plant! So many people discard the leaves of so many fruits and veggies when in fact you can eat them. I have not actually seen the leaves anywhere here since they usually just sell the root, but I told my boyfriend I really want to try growing some on our own so we can get the whole plant! Great to know about the many health benefits, as well. :)
I think @simplymike was made it to grow the sweet potato last summer in Belgium, so I think it will grow nicely.. at least you can get the leaves if the roots not big enough to be a potato π @plantstoplanks, I hope you made it π
They definitely grow well in our region, so I hope to finally give them a try! :)
That looks yummy!
Sweet potatoes are cool... but I like yam, too. Do you have yams over there?
We have yam too here in Indonesia @trincowski ... the blessing of tropical country

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR WONKIE AWARD ππΏπ
Thank you for the wonkie awardπ
My pleasure Sweetie π
Sweet potato is considered as one of the cheapest and common food in Thailand, too. Your dessert of orange sweet potato looks yummy. It is one of my favorites, too. ;)
p.s. Sorry that I have no comment on the drink from the potato leaves because I'm not vegetarian.
