Documents of a resident of Slovakia.

Take a look at my previous post.

It is about the technical control of the car in Slovakia. According to the plan, the next post must be about the post "Buying and owning a car by a non-citizen". Today I thought that such thr post would not be clear without an explanation of the documents of a resident of Slovakia.

Let's get started.
A resident is a person who lives in a "foreign" country not as a tourist. That is, no longer a tourist, but not a citizen. This post will talk about such people.

I now have Ukrainian citizenship. I live in Slovakia. I am a resident of Slovakia. This post is not legal advice. It is just my experience and my personal opinion.

Ukraine has a visa-free regime with the European Union. And Slovakia is a country of the European Union. On the part of the Slovak Republic, there are countries with a visa-free regime and countries with a visa regime. I can tell you about the first option.

There are no visas for such countries. Such a system does not work in all EU countries. That is, a non-citizen cannot be on the territory of the country only in two legal statuses: tourist and resident.
Tourist, everything is simple here. Arrived with a biometric passport and you are here. You can relax, attend seminars, volunteer and much more.

It is more and more difficult with a resident.
You can become a resident (and it is necessary) if: you work, do business, live here permanently with relatives and much more. To do this, you must obtain a POBYT document. This is a residence permit. It can be of two types: limited in time, not limited in time. Unlimited POBYT can be obtained after 5 years of stay in the country.

POBYT grants many rights. It acts as a passport. You can buy a car, buy a home, get a mortgage, enter into contracts with utilities, use banks. In fact, to feel like a normal citizen of your country.

Of the disadvantages. You have to spend more than half of your time in Slovakia. Your life for 2 years. Then you can leave for a total of no more than 364 days in Slovakia. This does not work for the Schengen zóne. You just can't be tracked. Personally for me this disadvantage is not a real disadvantage ))

Such a useful document. After 8 years of legal residence, you can try to obtain citizenship.

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your support.
