Coffee Is Required - a five-minute #freewrite

"I need to buy a cow. You won't regret it. I swear!"

Jenny narrowed her eyes and squinted at Joey's increasingly widening, and infuriating, grin.

"I don't think so."

Part One - It All Began With a Knitting Needle - prompt: knitting needle

coffee1711431_1920.png

Jenny gathered up the laptop and her empty coffee mug and hugged them to her chest as she leapt up from the couch. Keeping her steady glare fixed to Joey's childish face, she backed into the kitchen. By God, she needed another coffee. Maybe with a splash of hard liquor. It was the only way to deal with this guy --the only way.

"No cows. Where would you put one, anyway? We don't live on a farm. Hell, we barely even have a backyard after that campfire incident a few years back."

Joey followed her into the kitchen, continously wiggling the knitting needle at her like a crazed magician.

"And please, can you just get that thing out of my face."

Joey thrust the knitting needle forward like a sword and Jenny squealed, almost dropping her laptop and mug, and then he ran back into the loungeroom giggling maniacally.

"No cow!" she yelled after him.

There was no answer, only the slamming of the front door and a flurry of hurried footsteps pounding on the pavement as the ginger-haired maniac ran off.

Jenny groaned. Carefully placing the laptop within eyesight on the table, lest Joey snuck around the back and leapt through the window to steal it, she refilled her coffee.

Joey did not leap through the kitchen window and there were no suspicious noises outside. That was probably bad. If she knew that maniac, and she did, all too well, there'd be a bovine in the house before week's end. Perhaps month's end if he waited for her to forget this little conversation.

She narrowed her eyes and took a deep mouthful of freshly brewed coffee. There would be no forgetting.

Ha! i think it is a wonderful idea to have a cow lol Fresh milk for your coffee!!!

Are you impacted by all the fires and the fire aftermath?

Mmm, fresh milk! :D Maybe a live-in cow isn't such a bad idea. ;)

We've been fine with the fires :) They've been going on since October -- in November there was one nearby that I was worried about, but that was contained and has since vanished. Most of the fires are down south, very far away from me. I'm just over 1000km away from one of the larger ones.

It is pretty scary though. We do have the occasional grass-fire pop up at the moment but they are quickly contained, and the very dry weather doesn't help.

I check the online fire map every couple of days just to see what's going on and if any more have sprouted nearby, but luckily Queensland is pretty unscathed.

That is good to know. Sometimes, even being far away, the air pollution still has an impact. I hope you stay fire free!

Taking care of a cow is a lot of work. I hope he knows what he is getting in for!

Wouldn't there be zoning ordinances regarding livestock, like cows? For instance, I live in a rural farm town, but we cannot keep livestock within the city limits. You can't even keep them in the rural areas unless you own a legally stipulated minimum acreage. There's a specific acreage per cow or horse required by law here too.

I imagine there would be some sort of law involved. :) However, this is Joey! He even ordered a Hippo on Amazon - https://steempeak.com/fiction/@kaelci/takeachancept3afive-minutefreewrite-4rgnz17iei :D :D

I'm thinking of doing up a Joey and Jenny book and putting all of their misadventures into a cohesive tale at some point. :D

The campfire incident was in relation to one of my first ever Joey things! :D https://steempeak.com/freewrite/@kaelci/a-reminder-to-pay-the-bills-a-five-minute-freewrite

I think it might've been the first, actually. The start of Joey's chaos!!!

I knew the campfire incident sounded familiar - I just don't remember details that far back. The hippo, though, that one has staying power! PLEASE, yes, please, do anthologize these tales into one cohesive book or novella. #GottaLove Joey!!!! And gotta hope Jenny comes around, lightens up a bit, and maybe, maybe, that Joey acquires some common sense. (Not too much!)

That's what I'm hoping to do! :D

I'm imagining Jenny snapping one day, which is basically what's happening now, performing all of these Joey-esque things and realising that she, too, can have fun, and she and Joey go on to terrorise Fictional Town, haha!

Or maybe something a little less psychotic. Not sure yet. We'll see!!

Psychotic is always fun, as long as it's happening to fictional characters and I'm safe at home. ) Write on!

I upvoted this, and the number didn't change: $2.65 - whassup with that?? It's only my second vote of the day (first one came up at two cents), and I'm at nearly 100% power. No reply necessary. Just, I regret that I cannot upvote every post I read and love!

Sorry! I'm only just seeing your Joey/Jenny comments now!

I wish I could upvote more too. Back when I first began on Steem all I wanted was to be able to give someone a measly 10cents, haha! Back then I only needed about 1000-2000 SP to give a 10 cent vote....... Now I'm at 5000 SP and I still can't give anything, 😂
