Her Way Of Saying Thank You

A couple of weeks ago my lovely and only orchid decided to give me a gift. It was before Christmas, so I took it as a Christmas gift. It was a gift from my cousin. When I got it, had two branches flowering both.

This is a photo taken right after I got it, in March 2016. As you can see, it was a healthy, lovely orchid. Then the next year I got only one branch growing and flowering and only once instead of twice. It was still fine, no worries, one is enough as the flower is beautiful. Then the next year right before the buds started to open, I moved the flower to another room as I got sick and needed something to cheer me up. Instead of flowering, the buds started to fall off one by one, one after another till there was none.

There was little I can do, so I moved the orchid back where it was and the next year it started to flower again but only once, around February, as usual.

This photo was taken today and as you can see, those little buds are growing and the first one is going to open soon.

I see people complaining about orchids dying in their care all the time and have relatives who are killing at least two orchids each year. They say it's a sensitive flower and it's true but I don't think it's so hard to take care of it. A little knowledge that you can pick up from the internet would do.

When I got this I knew nothing about it and maybe still don't know much about it but it's alive, has four years already in my care and flowering. It's a real pleasure watching the flowers for two months. The beautiful colors and texture of the flowers is something I'm always looking forward to.

I think this is her way of saying thank you. I'm grateful and will take good care of her no matter what. By the way, it's time to clean the leaves as I see dust on them.
