Thursday Freewrite Prompt - Suffocate

avatar

I suffocate! I cling to the boat! I can't do it! I can't breath! I panic! I'm out of my depth! There are sharks in the water, but they don't concern me. Truly they don't!

I know they are not dangerous if they are not provoked. I won't provoke them. My concern is that I am out of my depth, although it does not bother me in the swimming pool. Yet here I am wearing a reef vest to keep me somewhat afloat! Yet still I seem to sink! I panic! I don't breathe! I suffocate!

My husband reaches under me and keeps me afloat! I relax! “Breathe through your mouth! Breathe through your mouth! Breathe through your mouth!” I repeat in my head. My husband drifts away and dives under water. I float! I relax! I breathe! I float!

I never believed I would ever snorkel with sharks! It had been my intention to remain in the boat, but I did not wish to miss the excitement.

I don't suffocate! I breathe! I don't panic! I relax! I don't sink! I float!

I photograph the sharks!

Thanks to @mariannewest for the #freewrite challenge! I have been out of practice of late, but enjoyed the spontaneity of the freewrite. Check out today's challenge and give it a go!

Hehe! Yes, we share a similar background! I once got dragged under water by an undercurrent when I was in my teens and could not stand up! My boyfriend saw me and grabbed me by my bathing suit! He had to pump water out of me because I was gasping to breathe!

I then had a similar experience in a wave pool when I fell off a raft and just couldn't resurface! The lifeguard didn't see me bobbing up and down, but thankfully my Dad did!

You're lucky to have a good boyfriend and a great dad!

My boyfriend has been my ex- husband for 27 years, but we are still good friends. My Dad is 97 and still a great Dad!

(Edited)

97 is a very respectable age. There is a man in Indiana, who is 112 years old and still is working as a mailman. He was caught doing something illegal - changing his birth date in his driver's license so that he'd be only 104. When a cup asked him about the reason for this misdemeanor, he responded that he's planning to get married and since his fiance was only 90, he was worried that the difference in age. will be too great )

Oh, that's too funny! I can't imagine someone still working at 112. He must be very fit.

It's short compared to Methuselah but in human terms is quite impressive )))

Phew! And I didn't get eaten by a shark. I will be making a whole post later on about that and another amazing shark experience!

I used to scuba dive frequently with black tip and white tip sharks when we lived in Guam. Leave them alone and they leave you alone.

I used to be so impressed when my husband told me he had snorkeled with sharks, never thinking that one day I would do it too! Now a great white - that would be another story!!

I would definitely draw the same line...no Great Whites!

Glad we agree on that one! Too bad that all sharks get a bad rap, though! It's like blaming all dogs for a handful of vicious ones!
