Is it that good?

Just last week, we went to KAITO Ramen house.. now once more..

UPDATE 01/08/2020
We're back at it again! After not even a week, I believe. Just to emphasize how good it is. A place we love. A cute waitress we admire. I think she knew we're coming so, she's off the duty today lol

The comfort Japanese food at KAITO. Talking about Kaito, there's no way we come here and don't order Ramen. They're well known for that and also, I love them for that. This time though, we switch things up a bit by ordering a different type of soup.

CHARSHU SPICY GARLIC ($14.50)

spicy garlic with 5 slices of BBQ pork, onion, corn, seaweed, bamboo-shoot

It's basically the same topping. This one is a clear..er soup. From its name, I gotta tell you it's pretty garlicy. Quite spicy but not like Thai spicy. It's mildly spicy but it keeps coming.

CHICKEN KATSU CURRY RICE ($14.95)

KAITO's signature Curry with deep-fried chicken cutlet & vegetables cooked well in curry sauce

I'm glad Kevin gotta come this time so we order 2 main dishes and share. If it's me alone, of course, I'm going straight for the ramen. Luckily, this time I had choices so I gave Japanese curry on rice a go. It's so good. The aroma and intensive taste of the curry, the crispy chicken cutlet and well-cooked rice. One big plus, they their curry came with Fukujinzuke, that pinkish orange-ish pickle goodness.

Fukujinzuke literally translates to "lucky god pickles," Some varieties accordingly contain seven different vegetables in homage. Although individual recipes vary, most contain lotus, daikon, eggplant, and cucumber. Some versions are tinted red with shiso.

How it's made: The chopped vegetables are marinated in a mixture of soy sauce and sugar overnight or longer.

How it tastes: Sweet and chutney-like.

Serve it with: Curry rice.

Vegetarian/Vegan Japanese food choices at KAITO

One of our friend we went together this time happens to not eat any kind of meat at all, Keegan. Not just that, he doesn't eat any kind of food but some American kinds of stuff he's used to. This time, we somehow got him out of his comfort zone but still, he wouldn't dare order ramen or rice or some fancy cant-make-it-at-home kind of food. Instead, he went with all deep-fried dishes.

Vegetable gyoza ($ 6.95) and Vegetable Tempura ($9.50)

Not bad at all really. You just really can't go wrong with deep frying.

After this last visit, my most favorite is still the white soup ramen, 'Chashu Tonkotsu Ramen ($14.50)'and will forever be.

Here's our blood soup ramen in Thailand #lol

It's been over 5 years since I was roaming around Santa Cruz.. Your post brought back a flood of memories... Fortunately, I live in Malaysia now so I can walk out my front door take a 100 steps and have some charsiew.. It's 8am so I'll have to wait a bit, but it's going down...

It's an elastic waistband lifestyle haha.. But fr I've gotta cut those carbs.. Maybe the broth approach to fill me up is the right move.. Coming off over 3 weeks of southern American holiday grub here is a daunting dietary task! 😐
