East meets North in my kitchen today

I’m a big fan of Asian foods, though my knowledge on it is quite limited and probably I really only know about the westernised restaurant style dishes. I have spend a couple weeks in Thailand and had a few hour layover on Hong Kong airport so that’s as far as my Asian adventures go.

I think everyone loves the the rich Chinese restaurant beef and broccoli served with rice, and here’s my version of it. Mine is a extra exotic version because instead of cow, I used moose meat.

Game can be quite tricky to work with because it has basically no fat, it’s tough and has a very strong taste. I prepared the meat well in advance, cutting it into thin strips and marinating in sesame oil, sodium bicarbonate and oyster sauce. Baking soda is the magic ingredient here for softening the meat and I use that sooo much when ever making Asian style foods, especially woks.

I can’t give you a recipe for my sauce because I used my homemade all-round Asian style sauce that I pre-make and always have in my fridge. Surely it’s not authentic to any region, I have just done my own research and mixed and matched recipes for wok sauces. Mine consist of two different soy sauces, oyster sauce, beef bouillon, fish sauce, sugar, sesame oil and some spices, I think. And of course there is a pinch of MSG, no Chinese restaurant style sauce is ready without it. That shit is about addictive as crack.

I invested in a rice cooker a few months back and I’m soooo happy I did. Takes out all the hassle of cookig rice, all you have to do is rinse the rice well and then leave the cooker to do its thing while I prepare the sauce.

If I didn’t tell you I used moose meat and served this meal for you, I don’t think you’d really even pay attention to it. My sauce has such rich flavour and the meat softened up beautifully in the marinate, really worked out super well for this. We always have moose meat in the freezer so I’ll definitely start using that more on these styles of foods too.

You should, it’s a game (haha) changer! You don’t need much and it makes a difference even in an hour.

At first glance, I thought that looks like a Filipino food. lol. Beef with broccoli is my favorite too! I haven't tried moose, is it better than beef in some way?

That shit is about addictive as crack.

Lmaooo this is so true 🤣 I forgot to buy one when I was at the grocery store cos I thought I still have at home, now I feel so incomplete without it. Food really tastes magical with msg lol

Depends on who you ask and what you make out of it, if you are not used to the taste it might taste too metallic. But if you get a good baby moose steak, it’s divine!

MSG really is the secret incredient that brings everything together. Have you seen Uncle Rogers on Youtube? I always think of him when I use MSG.

xD "OG platform" lol

I think you just get some extra visibility and possible followers from people who check the community feed that may not see your posts in general, some possible extra curation too.

I know I know, I just need to search the right communities for me. I have mostly used NeedleworkMonday and PewPew so far, quite the polar opposites 😄
