Happy Thanksgiving. And A Sad Look Around, Too!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

It's been a while, to say the least... Almost all of quarantine, and then some. My last day of work was March 13th. TODAY, for some reason, I felt the urge to say "hi!"

Our Table!

Usually, we have about 16 or so give or take a body here or there, for the Holiday. Not today, it was the four of us, plus one who is inside our bubble.

Here, our table set, right before everyone sat down for dinner.

Today, I was up and in the kitchen about 10 am. The result, 17 pound Roasted Turkey, a bread-based stuffing (made a large batch some some baked inside the bird, some in the oven, a dozen or more red Bliss potato, turned into my Dirty Smashed Garlic Potato, a few roasted sweet potato, some homemade (week ago) cranberry, a large tray of Brussels Sprouts (pan seared with olive oil, sea salt, cracked pepper), with my favorite home made glaze: Balsamic Vinegar, Pear Nectar, honey, and a bit of my homemade Beach Plum Jelly! After the bird was out, I used the pan drippings and crusty bits, and made a roux (butter, flour) and made a fantastic gravy.

The meal was amazing, although a bit sad... first year without mom for thanksgiving, and no cousins, or nieces and nephews.

I am not sure what to say, as far as work... 12 million of us in Live Entertainment are out of work. Over$100 Billion in lost wages. The vast majority, more than 90% of people in concerts, plays, orchestras, live music, special events, corporate meetings lost the jobs.

We were, quite literally, the
#FirstToGoLastToComeBack

We know, we are unlikely to see work before fall of 2021. Most of us have heard from our clients, and insurance companies: our industry is simply shut down for at least another year. Period. Unlikely that the majority of those 12 million will see work in this field for a year.

For me, personally, I am fine. I worked hard and saved for 4 decades. I have literally been doing this, and know little else for over 45 years. It is not just my job, it is a passion. It is my friends, my family, and my life. Gone.

I look around at other countries, and marvel at their comebacks. Imagine if America had shut down? Imagine if our RESPONSE in April had been what Italy, Spain, and New Zealand did? Imagine? We would have plays, concerts, and live music again. We could eat normally in restaurants.

How truly sad it is, to see selfish, arrogant people,
who simply deny science!

#SaveLiveEventsNow

Always, I strive to give back

To the animals and birds around me

to put more plants in than I take out

And be a good steward for the world around me!

They have a few segregated performances here and there, mostly plays, not many live music shows. Looks like you'll have Thanksgiving dinner for the next few weeks eh? 🤣

Tough times indeed, but the UK is no better - from March to July everything was shutdown. July to September we had limited opening but no live entertainment and household mixing restrictions. October new Lockdowns and the whole of November we have had a full lockdown. That ends 2nd of December and most of the UK will then be on a tier 3 high level lockdown again - so basically most of the year no eating out, no pubs, clubs, live entertainment, hotels. And that's no good for me either, because they are all my customers not trading so not buying coffee. Coronavirus has decimated business's large and small and the economic cost it has caused will still be felt long past my lifetime. Unemployment at record highs. Government spending into trillions which will be clawed back in taxes.
