Tokens and Tribes and FOMO

avatar

It's time to admit, I'm totally out of the loop with all these tribes and tokens. I have actually been told that I am "missing out on tribes" and now I have a dose of FOMO.

I have included some tribe tags in previous post. #palnet of course is a tag I use often. With @theexcelclub I have one post I thought was suitable for both #stemgeeks and #steemleo. But I know nothing about the other tribes and many of the tokens.

Do you wanna enlighten me?

Tell me

What's your favourite tribe? Why?

What tribes do you think stand the most chance and why?

What tribes are worth investing in?

Hows the value of all the tokens holding up?

Are there any worthy tokens with no tribes and what makes them worthy?

I'm looking forward to reading your answers 🤗

I don't see value in things that I have zero say in the governance. Steem blockchain has witnesses that we vote for and they vote for the code. What do these "Tribes" have? Who determines who gets banned? That's why I refuse to use them.

Low token supply so that's good :)

STEM is tightly controlled and has been reducing supply quite well.

CCC, Creativecoin has the prettiest content.

LEO is decent for the investing related stuff.

And SPORTS was doing ok income-wise until a bot arrived.

DEC - Splinterlands looks to be the token holding it's value and rising.

I would not be a buyer of any at present, but what do I know :)

Sports has a bidbot?
Quickly unstakes everything...

Yeah.

Unsurprisingly, the price has gone down the toilet as the payments are very good in comparison to the Steem bots and the main delegator has been dumping the lot each day.

Was it the classic pyramid style where folks delegate and the one at the top somehow magically makes out with the most tokens? When announced, was the community all giddy and excited about this grand new development?

It's like you have the future written down in front of you :)

The bot is under review, but yes, that is exactly the case - the biggest delegators actually receiving the largest daily returns % wise - all liquid - straight to market.

They fell for it... Unbelievable. Over two years worth of that nonsense on Steemit wasn't enough for people to learn.

I have another question. Was there a short lived price spike shortly after the announcement?

Quickly unstakes everything...

Unless this is a typo in the post of @holger80 regarding SPORTS, an unstake cooldown of 270 days would be a major pain in the rear for anyone trying to unstake. I attempted to unstake 1 SPORTS to see more info, but for now all it shows is today's date and that 9 payments will be made to full unstake. Normally those should be weekly payments as far as I know, so, 270 days is probably a typo?

I was just trying to be funny. It takes time.

I know you were. :)

But if it takes 270 days, that's no longer funny! That's why I thought maybe it was only a typo in Holger's post.

The only one I have not bought into... thanks for the info, the bot will need to go or this tribe will fail.

SPORTS is doing OK now to be fair, it was crazy-time a few weeks ago.

The bot will kick out vested SPORTS soon, the % is still being decided.

SPORTS is doing OK now to be fair

It's a reason for me not to buy any SPORTS tokens. We have already seen what has happened in the past. Please let the community know if any others go that way.

I'll be taking more of a back seat from now, the place is wearing me down but I was hoping the tribes would be the saviours.

They have kicked off some of the dickheads already, and Trending is what trending should be.., but now not on SPORTS.

This is really disappointing news to me.

Fair enough.

I heard that Steemit Inc welcome the tribes as they have served as a distraction whilst they work on SMT. My pessimistic hat says very few will survive.

The bot can't touch trending on SPORTS, that's full of all the largest stakeholders...

Just an update on proceedings regarding SPORTS.

The bot has gone full power up on the payouts and so the dumping is on hold (I'm expecting perma-powerdowns to start and then selling to pick-up in around a month).

as for me I love creativecoin because their amout of upvote. Unlike pal it's like in steem, hard to get $1. And also most of the creative coin post are creative..I used most of the time ccc but not all writings can be used with these tag because your content must be creative.

How has 'creative' been defined?

there are several types of creative from what I read of @shadowspub post. There are fiction writing that aren't creative at all. But in poetry it's always creative. And the article also is not creative, you can't tag it there. That's what I understand for now.

fiction is always a creative work... whether it is a good fiction work is the question. It's creative nonfiction and nonfiction where confusion comes in.

Any tribe that is activity fighting spam while engaging and helping amazing content get notice is worth looking into.

Since I’m a gamer it’s @steem-ace via #steemace for me.
They

  • flag and mute spam
  • Bought Steem delegation to supporter amazing content with their main curation account.
  • Publish a daily list
  • Opened up a SM guild that requires you to have 1k GG tokens staked. While spending their own money to raise the guilds level.
  • Host SM tournaments
  • Did a GG buyback
  • Burned GG tokens
  • Have quite a few staff members

They look to be in it for the long haul. I look forward to seeing them grow.

The Neoxian Bank. He has his own tribe and coin now. Best bank for steem. To know more, visit #neoxian. His explanation is in this post. "The Bank of Neoxian: July 2019 update, APR: 6.25%"

The only way tribes survive into the future is if they reach out and create communities with users from outside of steem and prevent rewards abuse diluting the value of the token.

I know steemleo is actively trying to do that. I don't know what the other tribes are doing in that regard.

I'll have to try and remember to keep checking back in here. I'm interested in what everyone has to say too.

I had some airdrops because I had PAL staked, so I'm working through finding out about each one. I'm unlikely to post much on investments, but I do like to read about them, so I've staked LEO and still earn from curation. CCC includes gardening and photography, so I can tag the odd post to that too earn, so that's staked. STEM is another I've staked, more for curation than anything. I've no idea about GG (good game), but I've staked it anyway in case some of the gamers I support use it. It'll be funny if it's not even related to gaming. :D I haven't figured out how any of them might benefit me other than through earning more of them. Lol

So far I'm liking JAHM the best. It is so niche it really enlightens me to what tribes can become. However there aren't enought users of JAHM yet to make it stable and secure. There are a few others with better economies for HODL, active communities to engage, or potential to make money just flipping tokens, but reggae and Jamaica topics of interest are pretty chill.

Are there any worthy tokens with no tribes and what makes them worthy?

Worth trying out the excelclub tokens?

When I run out of things to vote and read on steemit, I head over to creativecoin or to sportstalk, always something there to read. I have pretty much hit tribal overload though, so many to look at just not enough time in a day.

I do like steemleo, even though I am not so much an investor I think it give people a place to curate and learn while earning, Kind of like your excelclub only with a wide open field. Check in with the steemleo people your excelclub post, it is teaching a system that is widely used by investment people.

Until reading down a bit about a bot on sportstalk I did like that, I may have to do like that person and de-stake, I think bots are the prime reason for the woes of steemit, and can not see taking the chance. It is a shame to read about the bot activity, because even though I am not a total sports fan I do sometimes like to see some football, or car racing, horse racing, ect.. just not a fanatic about it.

I have only used the creativecoin tag a little bit but have been happy with the results, I am hoping they will do as sportstalk did and break the categories down a bit.

The tribes are still new, and we are all still new to them, so it's a watch what you can and interest you, then go and play.

I was able to make a bit of steem from dporn tokens, sounds like I should have saved them and waited to sell. but such is life, you buy and sell when you can.

there is a new tribe under the creativecoin umbrella called sonic groove for musicians and heard a hint on PYPT last night that there may be a photography one on its way. early days.

I have staked up in Creative Coin a bit (around 18k staked) and have about 20k more open buy orders open at lower prices. It was a good fit for me, nearly 100% overlap with the kinds of posts and users I upvote regularly and also nearly all of my own posting can go under the tag. I like and trust the folks running the tribe and they have been active so far in cleaning up abuse of the tag and using their owner's stake to curate the tag. Price has been bouncing around between .04 and .03 Steem with a slight downward trend for past week or two.

One interesting thing is even if @abh12345 is right in terms of, it might not be a good decision to buy any of these tokens for a long term hold, in the short term you can award a ton of value with your vote. My full upvote currently is ~60 creative coin (worth ~1.8 Steem or $.36 USD). Compare that with my (voting / non-delegated out) 897 SP which awards less than $.01. I am awarding more than 36 times as much value per upvote in $ terms in Creative Coin than I am in Steem. In the past week and a half I have basically given the same $ rewards out to people as I would do in the next year of voting with my SP. I have absolutely loved being able to give out upvotes worth almost 2 steem, with an investment way less than it would require to get enough SP to give out 2 steem upvotes directly.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I can almost say the same thing. I have a lot of SP in comparison though and with roughly the same amount of CCC as you, it's like I'm handing out 100% votes at 50% power.

I've been trying to get more of the creative types I've met over the years involved. So many have left though. I'm being careful with my votes as well, looking for those posts with effort, looking for community builders; stakers instead of takers. It's far too soon for inexperienced members to dump but most don't understand the business side of things. Need to build a strong foundation first or the whole thing will just fall to the ground. So I'll spend a bit of money and take on the risk, try to help get the ball rolling. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I would have smoked that money anyway.

"If it doesn't work, it doesn't work" yeah there is really nothing to lose at this point when you are talking about about a few hundred Steem. On the main chain that few hundred Steem might as well be pissing in the wind, but right now that amount worth of CCC or another side token can give decent reward, and if there is even a chance it might continue to grow and build toward an actual community of creative types, actually creating and interacting and curating and being rewarded for same... then what the fuck is there to lose?

I know for a fact arts and entertainment does well anywhere else. Multi billion dollar industry. Just need some more arts and entertainers; plenty left, maybe they'll come back. Most won't work for pennies though so trying to get more buys than sells is important. Getting paid to be entertained is an easy sell and the place will need invested consumers in order to thrive. If it's just people earning and selling, it doesn't stand a chance.

The final paragraph is the reason why i suggest not investing into any of the tribes unless you plan to be there for the long haul.

. In the past week and a half I have basically given the same $ rewards out to people as I would do in the next year of voting with my SP.

How does that work then, without the tokens being massively over-valued?

A few weeks ago, i could give 15000 sports with a full vote, worth a staggering 120 STEEM. It is no surprise to see that my vote is now 15 times less with twice as many tokens vested. 7.5 STEEM for a full vote at current market rate - still insane, further falls to come imo.

well at the beginning of one of these tribes a big part of the seeming overvalue of the vote is just that there are not a ton of votes being cast. Our steem votes would be worth a lot more too if as small a % of the total SP was being used to vote. But of course you are also right that there is some overvaluation. But that is kind of what I am saying, in reverse. There is overvaluation right now. It is awesome to get to take advantage of that and actually be able to reward some quality artists and photographers and writers, and if they want they could exchange that reward for steem right now in amounts that I will never be able to do with my owned SP and miniscule Steem vote. If the token crashes that doesn't take away the amount I have already been able to reward, and how awesome that felt :) I kinda feel like I already got my money's worth.

I'm currently big on sports and realityhubs (reviews - I normally do movies, series and games) just because thats my usual style of content before tribes even came along

@hobo.media have a token for decentralised journalism. I think the fit with Steem is a great idea. Delagating to them to support independent journalists gives you a stake in the project.
