Day 2 Of Putting The Manual Back Into Fitness: Steem Daily 100 Rep Fitness Challenge Of 50 Push-ups & 50 Air Squats - Please Join In

avatar
(Edited)

Day 2 is complete with 55 push-ups and 55 air squats in my Steem uniform. I did 5 extra for each because I lost count. Oh well, my body wins...

It's all about the results. It took me longer this time, but I did the job. I also listened to @michealb's advice to go deeper on my push-ups, which made it harder and had me cursing with his Lego head avatar in my mind towards the end, haha.

We had 2 Steemians produce results on the first day for a solid start!

Here's everything you need to know for the kickoff of my second daily fitness challenge.

Please read that link to get the bigger picture and the history behind this.

The first time I ran this, 55 Steemians from 14 countries did 580,283 overall reps across 156 consecutive days.

Join The Mission:

50 push-ups and 50 squats daily if you can, or as often as you can, and reply that you did them. Video or photo proof is great, but not necessary. We'll work on an honor system since some people want to stay private. If you need to do more squats at first, that's ok, just try to get to 100 total between these two exercises.

Exercises will shift, expand, and rotate as we proceed.

This is intended to boost morale, health, and engagement on the Steem blockchain. It's also intended to be a baseline daily workout that becomes easier as time goes on. I'll be doing these regardless if I have another workout, or a workout for the same body parts. Effort = results.

The only days I will skip are the days before I have to play baseball (usually on a weekend this Fall).

Here's me hammering out 55 push-ups and 55 air squats on 8/16/2019. I was much slower than my 2:52 time yesterday at 4:20 today. I was a bit sore from the first sets last night and also from carrying a ton of weight in a big box over half a mile last night afterwards. That's curb recycling for you in... it's good for the soul and also $450+ worth of high quality stuff to sell.

Day 1 Participants (50 push-ups and 50 air squats):

I'm not surprised to see these two jumping right back in at their first chance. Thank you for leading the charge.

@thevillan will try to get involved when this doesn't interrupt his gym routine, and both @tarazkp and @celestal should contribute once they're over their fever/sniffles. @willowwisp is thinking it through as it's not an easy task for everyone.

I'm nominating @khufu, @aussieninja, and @ninjamike to dive in and get on board. -> Please see this link from yesterday's kickoff post for details.

Markets and spirits may be down now, but our health should always be on the rise.

We don't always need an app and tokens for everything. Sometimes we just need to take control and put in the work.

Rep on,
@steemmatt

Nice challenge! The steem price needn't affect our workout routines.

BTW I was haven a look at the local trash in my Dad's city yesterday - saw a Dyson and thought of you. Wasn't possible for me to pick it up unfortunately!

No steem price shouldn't.

Thanks. Please feel free to partake any time you'd like, even if it's just a one-time shot.

Hey if you see a Dyson, take the hose and the active base plate power nozzle off it! Those are the best parts to resell.

Cheers for the tip!

I'm tempted by the challenge, but I'll wait 'til I'm back home and have my chinning bar to hand, I'll probably throw some chins into the mix!

Night time dedication = no excuses. You got the job done!! You also faced the same challenge as me, literally, with the awkward rest facing the camera and relieved smile. Nailed it in style with an accomplished expression at the end. Enjoy the pump.

Fortunately I trust your form in the dark there. Just make sure you're going deep enough to get the full benefit.

Thanks. Man I can feel the burn. It wasn't night time though, it is early morning. There's no electricity right now, so the room is dark. I have an exam in like 1.5hrs, wish me luck

Exercise helps with circulation. You'll be sharper and get better grades or else you'll just need to do more reps. Good luck!!

Damn those types of push-ups are legit. I will work up to eventually being able to do them, but need some more warm up time to get stronger. I'm glad you immediately raise the bar so we have something to shoot for. Congrats on being 2 for 2 per usual.

I've been mostly inactive lately, on steemit and with my training. I've been out of action with a recurrent back injury for almost 5 months. I don't even know if I can still do a pushup. I've got a 4cm labral tear in my hip cartilage and I don't have cartilage in one knee but I've been doing a lot of hip mobility work in the last few weeks, so the squats might be OK.

Do we have to do all the reps in one block or can we spread it out a bit? I prefer to do all my weight training in an a alactic & anaerobic style these days and save the lactate training for rare occasions on a MTB.

It's good to see that you've rekindled this Matt, when I first came to steemit your 100 rep challenge was the main thing that kept me interested. We had a great community going here towards the end.

If you're able, you can break it up as much as you need to during a day. If you can't do a push-up, all squats are fine. Don't push it too hard if it's risky. If it's not possible right now, let me know what level is since you're obviously still healing/working through some pain.

Oh my god! 50 pushups and 50 squats? That's a hell of a kick off. Alright I'll give it a try!

I know you will. Eventually they'll be a walk in the park after a week or two. Knowing you, you'll have a ninja backflip or some type of super move mixed in, and I can't wait... Thanks for showing up to the rally call.

I knew this Australian super soldier would return to battle. You were so calm. My workouts are going to be a little harder for a while with this baseline stuff for me (do it at will when you can), but I know they'll get easier and build a good foundation/habit to keep me growing and my metabolism at work. Thanks for your effort and support.

Your hallway is so much better than mine!!

Hah, ironically I tried to go deep on these. I can work with and appreciate this reward system. The mercy for no downvote is greatly appreciated.

The push-ups actually feel deeper when I’m doing them, but guess they’re not low enough. Per what @rmsbodybuilding said, my arms might be too wide to make that too tough on me. This might be the cure, although I like the stretch.

(My reply was before your edit. It’s cool. I’m all for the advice.)

yeah seen what he wrote - i'm sure he would know. i did change my comment lol.

i did pushups like you until started crossfit classes and unless chest touches the ground it doesn't count. never bothered to research it though :)

i think you will do push-ups every day-so it will be repetitive exercise( it will make a damage) why to make a damage while you can grow nice pecks and triceps. if you fall once from the stairs it won't make big damage LOL. But think if you going to do it by your will every day it will do plenty of damage. You NEED!!!!! to make research of any exercise if you starting any training routine. women do with wide elbows, because their pecks and triceps are very weak, so they must build strength in those muscles before starting the push-ups routine

The push-ups are just for a few weeks to get the challenge going. I'll then introduce new challenges like burpees, lunges, etc.. I appreciate the advice. If I ever feel pain, I'll definitely stop and rest that group. 50 push-ups is really nothing when I'm tuned up in shape though. Knock on wood.
