Shooting at a fantastic location

Wednesday was my first day back shooting for one of my more regular pre-Covid clients.

I was back shooting for Discover Double Bass based in Leeds, who I have posted about many times before here on HIVE.

This was the most significant job, in terms of what it means to ‘get back to normal’, since lockdown started in the UK.

We had a big project planned with DDB, and then lockdown cancelled aeverything to do with it. It was an epic 2-week long adventure filming some bass legends.

However, I digress, I’m just chuffed to have been back filming with my usual gear amongst the usual team.
It’s been great to have the lights and cameras out for a real job again.

We were filming a series of interviews over one single day at an amazing events venue called The Left Bank in Leeds.
It’s an ex-church, complete with original stained glass windows, pews and original architecture but it’s a completely repurposed space. Ideal for what we needed.

I’ve actually shot two music videos there over the years.
The first was for Leeds progressive goth pop legends The March Violets in 2011.

And then for one of my own all time favourite bands The Scaramanga Six in 2013. This one was a lot of fun to make.

We used the space for the interviews in a more conventional way, however this time choosing the other side of the hall as the backdrop instead of the two seen in the music videos.

We had three cameras running as well as a sound recorder, and approximately 5 x led lights.
There was plenty of daylight flooding the space but by 5pm it was staring to darken significantly.

It was mainly conversational content that we were filming - but it was interspersed with short demo and performance sections.

I really enjoyed the more philosophical chats in their approach to music. That, I could relate to.

I look forward to 6 days in August shooting again with DDB!

Cheers for reading, @ashtv.
