One Wish Before Blowing Out The Candles...

This is a story that one understands later, in time. That people tell a first part so that they can understand the second part. It's a story in which perhaps naming the characters does matter because people make connections and know that in almost all fiction, there is some reality. In short, it's a story that more than telling you that life is cruel, it lets you know that if you know how to ask, life gives, even if you don't know what to do with what life has put in your hands.

That day Daniel was turning 9 years old and they had organized a party to celebrate such a beautiful date. Months before, Daniel and his mother had made the guest list and had bought some of the cotillions and objects to decorate. When they arrived with the shipment of sweets and candies, the father began to fight as he always did. Mother and son, frightened, locked themselves in the room and waited anxiously for the man to get tired and leave. As usual, the man got tired of screaming, slammed the door and went to the corner bar. That night, Daniel knew that his mother would sleep with him.

A week before the party, there was a mishap with the music and the clowns. Daniel's father, in a bad mood, had broken the contract, claiming that there would be no party because he decided to. Mother and son, who were used to the man's aggressiveness, just decided to keep quiet and not upset him in the least. However, the boy could not stop crying because he had dreamed of a special and unforgettable party. The mother tried to comfort him, explaining to him what she didn't understand either, but it was impossible: Daniel was furious and sad.

When the day of the party arrived, Daniel's father began to receive the guests. He told everyone that he had organized the party. He tried to be polite and attentive, showing a side that he rarely showed to his family. From afar, Daniel looked at his father attentively and there was something feline in his eyes. While Daniel's friends were enjoying the party, Daniel remained silent and calm. There was a moment when the father, in front of everyone, wanted to hug him and the boy got out of the father's embrace as best he could. This aggressive reaction did not go unnoticed by those present, who felt not only shame for the father, but also a little bit of curiosity for the child's daring.

The audience saw when the mother took the child to an isolated place and by the gestures of her hands and face, she disarmed him. The child returned to the party quietly, with that feline look, as if he were up to something, without participating in any game, without letting go of any laughter. The father, like any host, kept his smile wide, although obviously false. It was difficult to hide his displeasure at the child's behavior, and he even attributed it to the fact that the child was spoiled by his mother and to other types of childishness. His clenched jaw and clenched fists were more noticeable than his feigned joy.

Later, when the mother kindly asked all the guests to come into the room to sing birthdays, they all gathered around the cake and began to sing, in a loud and intemperate way, the happy birthday. The child, there in silence, between father and mother, looking at the cake, closed his eyes when it was time to blow out the candles. Suddenly, he raises his face and looks at his father, in a defiant and fierce manner, as if a great battle were taking place in that look. The father looked at him and turned pale, as he was able to see into the depths of his son's heart and what he saw was very dark. The boy lowered his head and blew out the candles. The father, at that very moment, put his hand to his chest. A strong, shuddering pain was breaking the left side of his body. He staggered at the screams of the guests. In the middle of the fall, the man's eyes met the child's gaze, and the man could tell, without anyone doubting it, that he in heaven had heard the child and that his wish had come true: that would be a special and unforgettable party.

A very emotional story narrating a real aspect of our everyday's life; man's dominance,a father's relationship to his son and how this behavior leads to many emotional heartbreaks face by the family.

That's right: sometimes fiction is just a reflection of reality! Thanks for your comment.

The power of the gaze and the intention... A realistic story with a very well thought out content. Indeed, some parents act in an arbitrary and unpleasant way, generating animosity in their sons, with the other possible consequences. Greetings, @nancybriti

There are feelings of pain or hatred that are engendered and can have not only negative effects, but powerful ones as well. Thanks for your comment, @josemalavem
