A makeshift hive

I posted this video some time back showing a swarm of bees huddling on a branch as they searched a new home.

It was long overdue for the idea to put up a hive, and a neighbour claimed he could make one for $15. I agreed to the deal without giving it much thought assuming he knew what he was doing.

At the end of the week this is what I got. Very cobbled together in my opinion, but I got what I paid for. There is no separation of chambers in this one so at harvest time the queen's position will have to be identified before hiving off some coney combs.

With enough flowers and morning dew around, I don't think it will take long before some bees make this their home.
