Trip to North Carolina

What a Beautiful Lodge!

These past 7 days I have been on the other side of the country visiting family. My sister got married and invited the entire family to stay at a lovely mountain getaway up in North Carolina. The scenery was just amazing and it was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

Check out that view from the back of the cabins. I could just sit out there for hours and vegetate. From my perspective all of that green is amazing. From my window here at home, all I see is stucco and shipping containers out the window. I definitely needed the break!

Another great thing about this trip that was actually quite unexpected is the fact that so many people actually showed up. My family is a bit strange, actually. My mom divorced my dad when I was just 3 years old and then remarried. Then her and my step-father divorced when I was just 11. Both dads showed up to the wedding with their current wives. This was both surreal and awesome!

I don't think that my mom and both dads have been in the same room since the early 70s. It really could not have gone better. Everyone got along great and we had a lot of laughs.

Everyone had their own room

I was actually pleasantly surprised to find that each and every one of us had our own private room. I don't know how much all of this must have cost, but it could not have been cheap. My sis has been married before, but she certainly did not go all out like this. I am guessing that this must be the one. Haha!

I have never seen her so happy, so I am feeling quite confident that she has made the best choice.

The lodge has this common area where we all spent a lot of time hanging out, chatting and having a good time. It was a very fun yet exhausting trip because there were so many people there that I wanted to spend time with, but not enough time to spend a lot of time with each person. I will say this though, I had no problem sleeping!

I also got to spend time with my nephew and my youngest sister (13 years apart!). This was a lot of fun for me because my nephew is basically a twin of me when I was that age. Same personality and sense of humor. That was a lot of fun.

My two dads

This was such a weird experience. They seated my dad (left) and my step dad (right) next to each other across the table from me.

I was a little worried that they would both behave very awkwardly, but to be honest they were joking, cutting up and having a good time. I guess it was easy because they both had a lot of material about my crazy mom to bond over. Of course those wounds are all long gone and healed considering that they've both been separated from her for many, many years.

Glad to be home

It is always nice to spend time with family. I got to see a lot of people that I haven't seen in way too long! It always freaks me out to see people that I love getting older. Some of us looking older than others! That being said, it is always nice to come home. I am pooped! Still recovering from all the flights and driving.

All things must come to an end, and it's time to get back to the grind of daily life. Sometimes it can be dull and boring; but that is what makes these special moments so nice!

Looks like an awesome trip. I'm the only person in my family that lives in Cali and I typically see immediate family a couple times a year and past that maybe once. I know what you mean about people getting older. You notice it when you don't see them as often.

BTW, you should check out Palnet.io if you've been out living a non digital human life you might not be up to speed on all the developments but it's pretty cool. I've been yapping about it on my blog for a few days now.

Me too - no other family here in Cali. It is weird when I go back east... In a nice way though. Sometimes the nasty stucco in the hood is not that attractive. It's good to get back to basics.

Yeah, I claimed my tokens on there (palnet) but I have no idea what the point of it is yet. I'll have to catch up on your blog and figure out what it is for.

I really appreciated seeing this post as it hits home quite hard for me. I grew up not far from from those North Carolina mountains on the Tennessee side and so The Appalachia’s are near and dear to my heart especially since I’ve been away from that part of the world for years now. I also live in a hustlin bustling metropolis and one of the few places on earth that make la traffic look inviting and orderly. I lived around San Francisco for about a decade and had enough experiences with LA tonknow that where I am now in Kuala Lumpur is like LA traffic without the police or laws influence, logical city planning, and of course here we have motorbikes behaving badly, no smog controls I think you get the picture.

The point is a mountain getaway would be most welcome, and while my parents didn’t ever remarry my marriage last year in Asia brought them both under the same roof for the first time in over a decade.

It’s refreshing to see some humanized post on steem and I just wanted to pop in and say I know a bit about how treasured this experience most have been for you and your family and it’s heart warming to see.

Thanks

You definitely need break but I dont think you will rest since many people showed up. All you gatta do is to have fun! Unless you will stay indoor in your own private room.

Great place to be, Rick! I've been to a few places similar in Montana, Washington and Oregon, as well as Western Canada.
Maybe not related to this, but since Carolina is mentioned in the lyrics, here is one from French Canada (Betty Bonifassi with DJ Champion in Montreal):
