parkrun: Personal best

I just finished a 5.134km running that lasted about 0hh:25mm:57.0ss !

It has been over a month since I have been to Letchworth parkrun. I just seem to have had other stuff happening, including music sessions on Friday nights. This time I got an early night and was up in time.

I wondered how I would do given my cycling yesterday and then I cycle uphill to where they do the run, but I surprised myself. There was a good sized crowd there with a few people who looked much older than me. They get all ages. One guy was running with his six year old son.

I set off at a good pace trying to find the right people to follow. As always the hill is hard work and even more so the second time. A few people went past me in the last few hundred metres. At the finish a guy was telling us the time, but I did not hear the minutes part. When I stopped my phone it was on 25:57 which I was quite happy with. My official time is 25:35, which is my best by a good chunk. My previous best was done at Great Denham, which is a very flat course. I should go back there to see how I do.

Endomondo shows me doing 5km in under 25 minutes, but that is about 100m short of the finish. I trust people measuring the course more than the GPS, so I am not taking this as meeting my 25 minute goal just yet.

I hope everyone has a good weekend of running or whatever you do.

Nice job! I did a 5k race here, and we were probably close to the same pace. I think I finished somewhere around 24:48 for my official time. A ways off my best, but I'm proud of the effort on yet another humid day and a hilly course. :)

Well done. I think I have more speed in me yet and a flat course should give a better time.

I bet you do! A good course and great weather really can make all the difference! I'm sure you'll get that official sub-25 in no time!

Cheers. It got pretty warm later. I am just happy to see improvement and it shows I am on the right track. I do not expect to be winning any races, but I can see what I am capable of.

Cheers. It feels like I am making progress. I enjoy the running anyway, but events like this are fun.

Hey , I have been meaning to ask you this for a while now... When I walk with my wife I find my lower back gets very very stiff. Almost to the point I can't get into the car when we are finished. Do you have any recommendations for stretches I can do before or after walking? Thanks!

I have to admit I do not do much in the way of stretches, but then I don't get too many aches and pains. Some general stretches up, down and to the side before and after exercise may be enough.

Okay, I will check into that. Even though it isn't super high impact I still feel like I should be doing a little more to limber up.
