What's inside the Owl Box?

Yay! There is an Owl Nestbox in a tree here at our place!

But the nestbox has been hijacked South African style hahaha.
An invader has decided that it will be a nice home to raise her children in, seeing as there is food close by because we are now feeding them.
Have a look below!

Oh yes! An Egyptian Goose has made her home in the owl box!

Beautiful to see how she surveys the area!

So this is why the two males had the big fight yesterday!

The male Egyptian Goose was protecting their new home!

Off she goes to get a drink of water!

It was so great to see that soon we will have goose babies, crow babies, robin babies, thrush babies, guinea fowl babies, olive thrush babies and even sunbird babies.
We will soon be swamped by many more new small critters.

For those that have never seen an owl nesting box, here is one above with two babies inside.

I was shocked years ago seeing goose sitting in trees, now invading owl homes!

These guys sure become territorial, making a huge noise chasing opposition away like a bunch of puffed up politicians having to be heard.

Awesome sighting and photography Stephen.

Thank you Lady Joan, had I not taken the slowest of strolls, I wouldn't have picked this one up.
They are fierce fighters and even the cats dodge them.
Blessings!

Wow, I almost never saw a goose flying, not to mention the height...

It must be super cute when the babies arrive! Can't wait to see them (if you'll post them? Haha).

Hahaha, I post many babies of different species every spring season my friend.Geese are know as "barreling along" fliers, as they don't have the air skills such as crows and other birds, but once they get going they can hold their own.
Blessings!

That is a smart mama goose. She found a palace for her family. It is high in the tree, do the little ones have to be big enough to fly when they leave the nest, or do they just have to survive the fall to the ground?

I thought that you would like it Lady Melinda.
The parents normally keep the kids in the nest until they are strong enough for their first flight. Of course straight down, but normally they don't get hurt as they flap their little wings which turns it into a soft landing.
Blessings!

Rather like the wood ducks that live here. I swear their babies bounce after falling 50 feet!
I do like it. !Tip

Can you believe that we had to stop our car because a gosling came running towards it JJ? The first one of the season and a guy caught it. I took a photo and will post it soon.
Blessings!

What a delightful post @papilloncharity It reminds me of the old saying, "What is good for the goose is good for the gander." But in this situation it is, "What was good for the owl, is good for the gander." 😄

Wonderful images which made me smile. (U & R )

I like how you have changed the old saying here my friend and indeed it's so true. A slow stroll can certainly deliver great views.
Glad that you liked the post!

So right my friend, very clever birds.
Egyptian geese are known as fighters and fox up a tree is no match for them.

I agree Sir @janton, it's an ideal spot with a great view to keep watch for predators.

And it will be interesting to keep an eye on them, I hope they stay safe up there.

Ah, the geese are fighters my friend, even the cats are scared of them and that location gives them the advantage of aireal attacks.
Snakes could present a problem, but I am sure that they will be safe there.
Blessings!

I'm glad to hear that. Maybe you should coat some of the pole with grease so snakes couldn't climb up there.
