A Prepper's Washing Machine ◇ We're going back in time a little.
Living with a real Prepper has its perks, look at this beauty:
It's an old Maytag with an electric motor that turns the basin back and forth and has a roller to strain the wash. I know it's not quite the perfect prepper washer since it does need electricity to run, but it does have a belt drive that could be switched to a different motor and perhaps a hand crank rig too... but then you need the equipment necessary, just in case!
We plugged it in to make sure everything worked, then we cleaded it out and gave it a try. The worst thing about living off grid or realy in a tiny home without a washer right now, is having so many 5 year old soiled pants and all that.. and now we don't have to go to do that laundry away from home!
A little hot water (almost 5 gallon worth) and we let it turn about 20 minutes.
The old Maytag worked really well. When it was done we emptied the water by taking that hose down towards the ground (we used a biodegradable soap) and filled it up up again with another 5 gallon bucket to rinse the wash. We ran the machine again another 20 minutes.
Once it was all rinsed and emptied again we ran the clothes through the rollers to squeeze the water out. It was pretty amazing to see how much water came out!
We can clean our clothes at home now... not by hand!!!! Woohoo!!!!
If I can I'll show you a video of this thing running later.
Preppers are like eco-living next level! LOL. Awesome to see the old Maytag doing service faithfully again.

And what a service it was. We really needed to get the little giu some clean clothes that didn't smell like pee
Very cool! And they built the old ones to last!
This thing is a beast! Super heavy duty
A thing of beauty. Wonderful to see it still in working order.

Yeah isn't it! And it works great.. thoigh it's outside, I'm not sure how much wash we'll be doing in the cold of winter!!!
No more meeting the clothes on the rocks... lol.
Nice find. Where did you find that?
Haha, we are borrowing it from our friend and neighbor! He had never used it and wanted to see it in use.
