ecoTrain QOTW Tie Up Post: What does your perfect day look like in the ecoVillage of tomorrow?

Thank you all who took part this week! I really enjoyed reading your visions of the perfect day in your ecoVillage! It was nice to imagine the scenes as you all described the things you would be doing, it all felt very peaceful and balanced! I think that is the keyword that showed up this week, balance. Everyone wanted to do different things during their perfect day. Some of us wanted time for their children, or to practice their art, or to have time for inner work. We almost all also wanted to get out and do some physical work, with gardening and food production being a real favourite. That is good to know, because I agree! Spending just one or two hours a day doing some gardening is really enjoyable, good for the body, and when everyone pitches in can lead to the production of enough beautiful organic local fruits and vegetables for everyone!

In case you didn't know, I am very busy behind the scenes developing an ecoVillage model that will, I hope, lead to the creation of not just one, but many ecoVillages around the world. To me, it wouldn't matter what I did on my perfect day in an ecoVillage of tomorrow. What matters to me is who I am doing it with, and how it feels, what the dynamics are, and why we are doing it in the first place! With that said, look out for some posts from @eco-alex soon with lots more juicy information on ecoVillage!

Enjoy the posts! <3

@stortebeker

In last week's QOTW @ecotrain has discussed the three aspects we considered most important for the ecovillage of our dreams. There were many interesting posts published to answer this question, inspiring each other with great ideas. If you've missed it, take a look at the wrap-up post!

This week we're staying with ecovillages, as i this week's QOTW they are asking us how we would spend our typical day. Or was a perfect day? Ideally the two should be one and the same, since I think an important aspect of perfection would be that it's not just a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but something normal, occurring on a usual basis. So let's see... what's my favorite way of spending my days?

@zeleiracordero

Embrace the day If I have learned something in this life, it is that "nobody learns in the head of another." For this reason, I believe that we should all have the right to experiment, to look for ways to express our interiority, to be served according to our individuality. Because although we look the same in many ways, each being has its own space and time to flourish, to bring its star to the sky and share its light. We are all connected beings and each one contributes and benefits, at the same time, from that connection. Consequently, one of the aspects that should prevail in the energy exchange between beings and things in the Universe is the respect. Therefore, it is necessary to start from the individuality towards the collective and not the opposite.

@edouard

For me, the ecovillage of tomorrow can only happen once the global population has decreased to less than 2.5 Billion people. Anywhere above that, I believe that organic waste from humans combined with the already existing pollution is in itself too taxing for the planet. Let alone the extra pollution from goods and services on top of that. Transcending the eco-fantasy We live in a world that likes to fantasize about off-grid communities, stating that it is better to show the way than to do nothing at all. If the global population went down under 2.5 billion, I would be willing to look at communities being more environmental than others but until then, humans are still going to be competing with other species with the unfair advantage of over-population.

@wakeupkitty

This is my entry to the ecoTrain QOTW: What does your perfect day look like in the ecoVillage of tomorrow? The ecovillage of my dreams only exist in my dream. It is a village where all provide in their own needs, have a home and feel comfortable and... are allowed to live by our biorhythm. A garden with mainly fruit trees and herbs and forest are part of it. The village will be there where the sun shines and cold winters and weeks of rain do not exist. I keep animals for their company or use and my neighbors are not complaining. The villagers are friendly, relaxed, greet each other. They have time for a chat, are willing to trade and give a hand if someone is in need. The villagers take care of each other without gossiping and setting rules for others to live by.

@trucklife-family

For any community to thrive, the ethos of the community needs to be very clear. Everyone needs to be on the same page within the community, to have the same goal. The most important thing for me is that everyone strives to be of service to the earth. To focus their lives on giving back, on leaving the planet in a better way that how they found it.

As a mother this is one of the most important things that we can show our children, in fact I strongly believe that we are all born knowing this. That we never question our place within nature, we feel the connection and the bond and because of that we nurture her as she nurtures us.

@porters

In my perfect day, for life in an ecoVilliage, there would be options to either spend time with your family or in your individual home or in community places like the community kitchen, permaculture/food forest gardens, or gathering places. I do enjoy my privacy and being able to greet the dawn in solitude with some meditation. Then I would like a walk-a-bout in my private garden surrounding my home taking care of whatever needs attending to. Breakfast could be at home or with folks preparing their breakfast together in the community kitchen. I do like preparing food and eating together! Dining communally! Once cleaned up, it would be off to check out the community permaculture/food forest garden – working there in the cooler part of the day. The harvest would be bought into the community kitchen and prepared for meals or storage.

@senorcoconut

I though really hard about last week's QOTW (that I missed) What 3 things are most important to you in the eco-village of tomorrow? I dream of an ecovillage, as a matter of fact we're in the middle of building one in the Hudson Valley (New York state, USA). Yet this question is nothing I had ever really thought of too much... In short these are my most important things: Tribalism, a sense of belonging to the group where hiarchy is replaced by egalitarianism. We are idividuals, but open hearted and ready to help one another when needed. Education, in my dream there is intention to teach four main areas to those willing to learn, Self-reliance, Building with natural materials, Nutrition and Art. I could go much deeper into those four and brake them down into many more, but for now that's the idea.

@olivia08

I was born in a mountain province of Bohol Philippines. If you have no idea about my homeland, please try to check how beautiful and noted as one of the best tourist spot in the Philippine. My parents are still living there with my three siblings and my 94 years old grandmother. Living there is my choice when I retire and go home for good. My residence is located in Davao, where I got married before so my only son and his family are now living there.
