Choice: Illusion and Symptom

Overwhelmed by choice? Like to have a huge range of options to choose from?

Or preferring to have just a few?

We speak of Choice as if it is a tangible item that we can employ either in Red mode (wide angle lens, if you will) or Blue (tighter focus). In contemplating which one I prefer, it came to me in the wee small hours (as clarity often does) that Choice is merely a symptom.

Choice is a symptom of our disconnection with Self. The greater the range of choices one FEELS, the less one is connected to one's purpose and the essence of Being which individuates each and every one of us.

When we are connected to our deepest Joy and have found meaning, there is no choice. And no need for it. Our purpose and vibration and inner fire will draw to itself exactly what it needs. And only that. The next step will be laying at our feet like a pretty shell on the beach. And it will be, and feel, so right that the myriad of other shells on the beach will simply go unnoticed.

The connection with Self draws all it needs. And the logical next steps are so clear that there is no burden of stress about too many choices or being forced to choose from a cluster of things which are all unpalatable.

When that feeling of too many choices hits, or when one is feeling forced to choose from a plateful of distasteful options, there are some really simple steps to follow:

  • Stop.
  • Back away from the 'urgent' situation and create some breathing space.
  • Turn the brain off
  • Meditate
  • Walk
  • Be silent
  • Turn the brain off again
  • Listen!

The point will come - the aha! moment - when it is suddenly clear why you feel conflicted and overwhelmed. And the next step will reveal itself simply. No need to choose.

When we can appreciate Choice as a barometer of our disconnectedness from Self, we are released from its illusion and able to reconnect with our Joy, which draws only that which is perfect and timely for our evolution as Beings of Light and Love.

I like your business very beautiful flowers. It happens that the choice is not easy to make, and it must be made, sober. Thanks.

Some choices are best made sober, but many not; when our facades are released through a glass of wine or a mind altering herb, it could be argued that our TRUE SELVES are finally deciding without the social constraint. Rationalizing those two the next day might be confronting, but the choice is probably a good one. :)

We all think we like more choices, but in practice it doesn't seem to quite work that way. I think. :)
