I have a short string of yellow LED lights I picked up at the Dollar Tree. They aren't failing to be white, they are definitely intentionally yellow. I plan to use them on a tiny tree at the library. We also havw colored LED lights on a battery box for our Christmas parade float. I don't much like the "white" ones I have seen. And I can understand the mismatch issue. With model paint, different dye lots from the same brand can be off just enough to notice, and matching between brands can be hopeless.

My comment is not going to be helpful, because I don't currently use many clear lights.

I do however have an opinion on the LED or not for Christmas lights in general. I have not had good experiences with the LED. They are too bright and bother my eyes.

One year I decided to switch to the fake C9s for my tree, you know, the larger ones like the old fashioned bulbs. Of course these days they are just the LED strings with plastic covers in the shape of the old C9s. The first strings I bought had clear/colored covers. I had multiple strings on my tree. In the day no big deal really, but at night, horrible. The LEDs were so bright that all the bulbs had a glaring white center and they were not pleasant to my eyes. I had already dressed the tree completely and that's a LOT of decorations, so I dealt with it through that one season.

The next year I re-bought the strings of C9 size with the colored/opague covers and those did so much better, because the glaring LED doesn't show through and it lights it up nicely. I have both kinds, multicolored all over my porch and bushes now.

AS for the small bare lights, clear or colored, I do not like the LED. The light is hurtful to my eyes. They may last longer, but if I can't stand to look at them, what good is that??

Unfortunately it seems the incandescent ones are not being made as good as they use to be or the wiring/fittings are bad, because it is hit or miss and they don't last very long. Even THEY use to last season after season, not anymore.

I have no clear cut answer for this one.

When Crayola lights came out, people couldn't buy them fast enough! Brighter, bolder and hello!!! Ready to kick the white incandescent to the sides.

Give me the same warmth of a twinkle light and I'll take it.

I love incandescent because of the colors. When I look at them side by side, the incandescent is warmer to the eyes. The LEDs are kind of harsh on the eyes and the white can run from ice(blue) white to slightly green white.
