[EP267] - My experience with Coil after a month...

Coil has been really fun. It's another blockchain blogging platform that pays you in XRP for the length of time people spend on your posts. It's an interesting take on the Internet of Attention but it's set up in a way that voting circles don't really work. You only earn XRP when subscribers read your posts, and subscribing costs $5 a month. This takes out a lot of the international voting circles, like the one that killed the Narrative blogging platform. As these subscribers consume more and more content, the value they generate gets less and less... so if the exact same people read your posts, you'll get less and less.

This encourages creators to go out and find more people, and I've really enjoyed that process. I haven't earnt much, I think it was about 11XRP in a month, which is basically nothing... but it feels honest and sustainable, and uses a fairly stable currency. You can also earn on your posts forever (provided subscribers are looking at them) so the following months should be better than my first month.

I guess we'll see.
