There is always enough gold as it is money. It's only a matter of allowing the Federal Reserve Note to drop to its true value versus gold and that is very near zero of course. What I would say to you is the following: "Are the "foot" and the "meter" too short of a measure to measure the height of the Empire State building? Of course not just like an "ounce of gold" is a very adequate measure of value.
