A Homage to the Macro Despertà - Fallas in Valencia

Here is the thing with my relationship to the Macro Desperta , the wakening call to the city of Valencia for the Fallas Festival .... this insane firecracker parade made me fall in love with Valencia! If you believe it or not.

We moved to Valencia 10 years ago, found an apartment right off Calle La Paz. Arriving mid February, not having ever heard anything about Las Fallas or knowing what a Mascleta is. So last Sunday of the month rolls around and we get thrown out of bed with sounds of bombs exploding! Did WWIII breakout?

A look down from our terrace from where we were able to see a bit of La Paz gave us our first glimpse of the Despertà. Still extremely puzzled we got dressed and ran down and we were even more puzzled. We followed the parade a long, leading us to the Plaza de Ayuntamiento for my very first Mascleta!!!!

After that I was sure I want to live in Valencia, if a city can be crazy like this, then this is the city I would like to live in. And then Fallas rolled around but that's an entire different story.
