A video I shot for 'Happy' by Chris Catalyst

(Edited)

Yesterday I filmed this short one-take video for my friend Chris Catalyst round at his house in Leeds, UK.
We filmed in his front room, so we tidied up a bit and lit it to look the part. But it's completely the style of his place, which I love.

He made this brilliant song called Happy and it was to be his 40th birthday the day following on from filming, so we had a quick turnaround to get the video shot and 'edited' ready for an online release. The whole video was a last minute thought, so it was fun jumping in to do this over an afternoon.

The message behind this song is one of positivity and kindness, something that Chris is brimming with.

Please enjoy and share the message far and wide.
It's good to talk.

You can download this and another song, from Chris's forthcoming album (which might be called 'Life Is Often Dead Weird') on Chris's website and Bandcamp page for free or a 'Pay What You Like' basis. If you can't afford it - don't worry about it. This isn't about the money - this is a thank you for all the support over the past few years.

Chris: 'There's two songs for you - the first is called 'Happy' and it's a song about acceptance and growing and understanding. I feel very fortunate that, following a lot of ups and downs throughout my thirties, things have actually turned out pretty good now I've hit 40. It's taken a lot of work, and more importantly a lot of support from lots of people around me, and I guess that's why I wanted to do it as a giveaway. Someone asked me yesterday how I felt about turning 40, and I have to say it isn't phasing me at all, I think because I am just in a really good and happy place, and just generally excited to see what is coming next.'

'The second song is called 'Dreams', and it's a bit different. I like them both equally in different ways, and I hope you do too.'

'The idea of the song is to spread a bit of positivity in an increasingly negative world... My old pal Ash Pears has helped me out with a little video that we thought highlighted some things that might help people who aren't feeling so good right now. Please spread it around, as it's a good message, and as ever I rely on you all to be our PR team, music press and hype machine. Thank you, as ever!'

It aint easy spelling Kalidascope is it! Nice video with an important message. Is it inspired by Sam Mendes 1917 to do a single continous take?

Haha one-take in this instance was for the sake of ease... no editing required!

Cheers for watching and paying attention.
All I did was turn up, setup the camera and lights, Chris did the rest!

Oh I totally love the song! Really turns into a rocking feel good anthem in the chorus. There are some funny touches in the signs notecards thingies LOL Simple video concept but I think very effective, particularly with the stats on depression/anxiety given in between the lyrics. This is awesome :)

Thanks man - it’s all Chris’s own doing, I just setup the camera and lights, all the rest is up to him.

If you like this song and it’s witty touch then I think you would really enjoy his album (from 2018 I think..) called ‘Life Is Often Brilliant’ by Chris Catalyst. Find it on Spotify and usual places.

The opening line to the first song on the album is ‘I’m getting my no-regrets tattoo lazered off..”
