Andrew Torba: “God bless Brazil” | gab.com - Gab Social
For a while GAB seemed the paragon of free speech. In a very short time GAB:
- Decentralised their social media platform
- created a browser extension to comment everywhere
- created their own browser
- created their their own app and merchandise stores,
- And lately creating their own news aggregate called Trends.
And all of that while Apple, Google, Chrome, credit card organisations, hosting and name service provisors tried to shut GAB down.
GAB seemed indestructible.
But recently, with the release of Trends something changes. Andrew Torba started to go on a christian traditionalist crusade against porn.
Porn has been banned for quite a while on GAB and it wasn't a big deal as GAB is mostly a site for political debate.
But attaching christian traditionalist rhetoric to the ban was something new and worry some. Now the porn ban became politically motivated. It was the first step on a slippery slope.
And as it is with slippery slopes there is always a next step. Which Andrew Torba took today by welcoming Brazils censoring of a comedy that portrait Jesus as gay.
External forces where unable to destroy GAB's supposedly unwavering stand on free speech but now the owner of GAB destroys GAB from within by making clear that on GAB too not all speech is equal.
