If you are familiar with ketogenic diet you will know that fasting for a prolonged period of time (about 15 - 16 hours) daily forces your metabolism turn into to fat metabolism from carbohydrate metabolism. 

It appears that the same change in metabolism is happening when you exercise regularly first thing in the morning before taking your breakfast. If that is so, then instead of following a ketogenic diet, which requires a lot of discipline, it may be easier to follow this exercise routine.
