Cardiac rehab is a customized outpatient program designed to help a heart patient to recover from heart attack, surgery involving heart and other forms of heart disease through exercise, emotional support and education about lifestyle changes.

The findings of this study funded by National Institutes of Health and conducted at Columbia University of Irving Medical Center shows that Transcendental Meditation (TM) is more effective than cardiac rehab. When combined, TM with cardiac rehab produces slightly better results than the sum of their individual results.

Going forward, it is likely that in the future cardiac rehab will include meditation as part of its lifestyle changes recommendations.
