The tech behind the smart assistants of the world have actually been around for a great deal of time. Actually they started in 1939 and by 50s computers could understand few spoken words. Data matters a lot to make great virtual assistants. 

There's A Bright Side

One of the reasons why Apple is lagging behind is because they actually respect user privacy more than the competitors. For this reason I really respect Siri. They are still hiring the best people even from Google AI projects. Things ill be getting better :)
