DIY Sustainable Gardening - Our Vegetable Plot from Our Security Camera - Big Island Hawaii

This photo is from our security camera which we pointed to our Vegetable plot. It looks like our experiment is working as the plants are still alive and thriving. We have not been to our Tiny House in 3 weeks and were worried that our irrigation system will either break down or run out of water.

We will be going to our Tiny House this Friday and can't wait to see how everything is working.

We have Cherry Tomatoes, Lettuce, and Cucumbers growing in this plot.

We are coming to think that using gray water is not going to be sustainable in the long term. The reason why is the algae growth in the lines is a problem based on the testing on our Lanai in Honolulu. This is one of the first thing we can't wait to check when go up this Friday.

The other reason is the amount of gray water that is being used. I am so curious to see how much water was used. I have to figure out how to build a water level gauge that I can read over the Internet.

I am thinking that the solution to our problem is going to be Aqua or Hydroponics. I am testing and monitoring the water loss with our system in Honolulu and can't wait to try and do this at scale.

I will be sure to post close up photos of how the bed is doing this Friday. Stay tuned.

For some reason I had it in my head that there's loads of rain in Hawaii...I guess it's season dependant. Hope all is well when you get up there and it'll be interesting to see how you go with the hydro/aqua set ups if you decide to go that way.

We do have a lot of rain in some areas but our Tiny House is in an area that does not get a lot of rain as we are close to the ocean.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I'll have to work out a way to get to Hawaii someday...I've heard it's worth the effort.
