Garden Loot and a few Chicks on the Side

avatar

It's the first time in a couple of years that we have had such an abundant tomato crop. I admit that I have been looking forward to saying -

"You can have anything you like - for breakfast, lunch and supper - as long as it's tomatoes..."

Last night's supper was mostly garden loot.

A frittata that looked just like the picture in the book and with courgettes and marjarom - also from the garden. Accompanied by a tomato salad. Of course.

A chick update: we still don't know how many there are (or were hatched) but they happily parade around the garden, ignoring us and the felines. Long may that last.

Until next time, be well

Those tomatoes look so healthy and the meal delicious! We had gorgeous bell peppers coming along nicely but when I went down to the check on them, our friends the monkeys had destroyed the plants so I was not charmed, didn't think they'd be interested in them.
Funnily, one thing they do not touch, are the tomatoes and they're coming along nicely, a friend gave us some nice strong plants.
I'm sure that little feathered family is giving you much pleasure!
Hoping the Covid cases are starting to drop in your area? Here many people have it, I think due to Christmas and New Year celebrations, sadly many older folk not faring well!
My son was so upset to get news about the Covid death of a pharmacy assistant who always encouraged him when he lived alone up in Joburg, she was in her early 50s. I believe her friendly and caring nature could possibly have been her downfall as she loved chatting to customers; it's just so sad!
    Take care Fiona.

The guineafowl have discovered the tomatoes! Tried to shoo The Husband away (quite aggressively) when he went to pick this morning. We have a problem with mouse birds - drongos - and bulbuls that like the fruit and capsicums...🤦🏼‍♀️

In the village, numbers are up and down. There have now been deaths of matriarchs infected by grandchildren and parents that went jolling in Ashton. Now people are scared and taking it seriously.

It seems to constant be this dark cloud...and it's so pervasive. Every conversation. Every waking thought. Almost. I am feeling a rant brewing...

    Be well and seker naweek!

Covid is such a cruel illness! Someone who survived said how awful it was hearing people struggling to breathe; my friend who lost her sister told me what a mission it was for her family who had to walk past queues of people waiting to be tested to identify her body, then queues at Home Affairs and back to the little rural hospital again to complete the paperwork. (there was no space at Richards Bay Hospital!) They were shocked as there were pages and pages in a book recording the people who had died over the weekend at this little hospital.
I find myself overwhelmed at times by all the sadness, but am trying to shift my focus on just how fortunate we are to be alive. We have to be ultra careful with guests.
Many are now facing death because of irresponsible large family/ friends gatherings over Christmas and New Year!
My son was so sad when he heard of a pharmacy assistant who used to encourage him when he lived alone in Joburg; sadly her chatty and helpful nature cost her her life.
Take good care of yourself Fiona.
