SETTLEMENT STEMS FROM CHIPPEWA LAWSUIT FOR A HUGE TOXIC CLEANUP

The Dow chemical company has agreed to establish a $77 million restoration fund to compensate the public for injuries caused by the release of hazardous substances from Dow’s Midland, Michigan facility.
According to a complaint that was filed on behalf of the state of Michigan and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, Dow began releasing dioxin-related compounds and other hazardous substances into the Tittabawassee River after its facility began operating in 1897.
After entering the Tittabawassee River, the company’s chemical waste would travel downstream until it reached Saginaw River and Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay.
Most of us think that we are well informed, we watch the nightly news, we read the msm news reports on the flashylight box in our pockets.
They would tell us, if it was important, right?
Clearly, the corporate interests lie in the story passing from the common knowledge to forgotten as quick as possible.
I bet you can't guess a front page story from last week.
You forgot about it in a matter of days.
It was in one ear, and out the other.
Just that quick.
Don't feel bad, it is a common malady.
Nurtured by those that benefit from your ignorance.
If you live in this area, the responsibility falls heaviest on you.
If you don't want crap that kills you in your water, you better ride herd on the chemical companies in your watershed.
Lord knows, they will do what pads the bottom line the most without regard to you, or your kids.
They dump, then run.
It won't affect them down in New Zealand.
