Testing Esteem App's Promote Option

avatar

I'm using the Esteem App desktop version for quite some while by now. Occasionally I use their mobile version too, but as I am more the classic keyboard type, a desktop version is the one I prefer.

I would call it the chain dedicated posting and browsing app for those of you who might not be familiar with it. It was initially created for Steem blockchain by @good-karma and afterward upgraded and further developed by the @esteemapp team.

With Hive's creation, Esteem App was among the first ones who adapted to the change and migrated almost right away.

In other words, although its name might still remind you of Steem blockchain, in fact, by using it, you can't post there anymore. I suppose they would change the name in the future. But I also guess it must not be that easy to do, especially having in mind Google Play and App Store demands for something like that.

However, the thing is that the users of the app earn so-called eSteem Points just by using it. Those points can be used (spent) in two offered ways by using the option "promote" or "boost" to promote or boost the published articles.

Also, when browsing through the other Hive members' published posts inside Esteem App, we may choose between our own "Feed," "Trending," "Hot," "New," and "Promoted" articles. As I'm currently not seeing any post listed under that last (Promoted) section, I decided to spend some of my eSteem Points to give it a try and see what this option would do.

I'm going to use that option for this very post and see if it would bring more visibility. I must say I'm quite curious. So, let's go and press that "Publish" button to be able to test the "Promote" option too.

I haven't use the promote option, but I did the boost option before. Although, I am confident it will work very well. Your post will gain more visibility among the esteem users. 😊

Well, I really don't know how it would work. At the moment, I'm still not seeing it among promoted posts there.

@ana-maria I noticed that this post was "sponsored" but is that the same as or different from "promote"?

That's it. Other people will see it from time to time and it will appear in their feed as being "sponsored." 😁

As it seems, "sponsored" and "promoted" are just two different names for the same thing. I think @trincowski explained it best in his comment.

In other words, while from Esteem App side members would hit the "Promote" button, readers would see the article (from time to time) marked as "sponsored."

So, in short, that's basically also the answer I was looking for - What this "Promote" button would do? Simple answer would be, give the post some more visibility (like if you would promote your twit on Twitter or some other post on FB or elsewhere), at the same time not guaranteeing any success or bigger earning.

Exactly.

Then you have the boost option which will increase your earnings but with that option alone, no one outside your circle will see the post.

Hello @putu300 , what does the boost option do?

Boost a post means you exchange your estm points with an upvote from esteem app curation team. The value of upvote you get depends on how many ESTM points you spend to boost your post. Why don't you try it?

Hello again! :) So I gave the "promote" option a shot. I was wanting to help a friend with a post they made that I really enjoyed. I think it worked because it started with 2 upvotes (after a few hours) and went past 100 upvotes after I promoted it! So I think it does help promote content into our general feeds.

However, I am still a bit confused about a "boost". If I exchanged my points for a boost, would that mean my voting power would increase or the esteem app curation team would upvote my (or someone else's) content? o: Thank you for your response. I am still learning how to use the app! ^_^

esteem app curation team would upvote you, and your voting power does not affected.

I used to use esteem s lot until recently I kept getting timeout from downloading. Very frustrating.

Yeah, this was quite frustrating to me either, but they solved that issue in the meantime.

If you have been using eSteem you have probably been finding my posts. I've been promoting most of them for 3 days each. It's a very nice feature to make your posts reach a wider audience. 😉

Agree with you. 🙂
But I have to tell you that before I started to follow you, whenever I would recall, I would just go to see what new you've posted as I remember you since Meredith's (@merej99) "The Beast" challenge times on Steemit when I discovered your beautiful interaction style with other members, as for your own posts the same for others. 😊
