Vote Now to get 50% Curation Rewards

avatar

Yep, that’s right, all the votes you cast on posts created from here in will be paid out under the 50% curation creator split.

Yesterday I published a post being my last posts under HF20 and I’m actually excited to see how this post compares when it come to payouts because this will be my first post to pay out under the new rules.  I purposely created a before and after post so I can see the immediate impact, before people start to change their voting, flagging and curating behaviours.

I also got some clarification that curation rewards won’t be penalised where voting happens after the first 5 minutes from publishing.  This is a reduction down from 15 minutes and a welcome change.

My Curation Focus (or lack of)...where my votes will be going

I look at my feed a lot, although it is a bit quite and I could do with following more interesting people, it often means I will read a post within the first minutes.  Previously I would try not vote before the 15 minutes but very often I would then forget to go back and give a vote to the post.  So, I personally welcome this change that comes with the HF.

I do hope to curate a little better, I have loved using Parkito for casual reading and finding out what’s going on with my steem peers.  But now that there is also a mobile keychain by @rolandp I hope to also start curating the tribes.  I have no intentions on setting up alt account to vote different tribes as some have done.  That’s just way too much work for me.

Obviously my first point of call for my VP is to engage with people on m brand account and reward those that take part in the learn and earn activities.

but for my spare VP, I do have a curation plan I want to put in place.   I have wanted to do it for a long time but have not go around to it.  I would really love to be manually curating other users that are trying to use the steem blockchain to add value to an existing or new business.  I'm not talking about developers building apps, but content type businesses, just like mine(well now wouldn't you know lol).  I wrote a post some time ago explaining the concept in more detail, My Steem Vision – a tool for enterprises.

https://steemit.com/steem/@paulag/my-steem-vision-a-tool-for-enterprises

These are the types of people and content I would love to be supporting. @jongolson is someone I have my eye on and need to move some support to.  But I don’t know any others here on the block and I haven’t had time to look.  If you do know any, please do let me know.  Steempress is a great place to start so I might become more active in their discord over the next few weeks.

This works if you want to stay on steem and have different voting weights for each tribe. https://economicstudio.github.io/vp/?a=paulag&t=PAL. Just change the vote weight multipler

Voted at 5 min hope your right lol

Nope, cannot be bothered!

Thinking about it, what you say makes perfect sense - should have thought about it a bit more :)

@abh12345, do you know anything about that voting window on the tribe sites??? Is it 5min, or 15? or something completely different, maybe?

I've asked a few people and no-one seems to know. I've changed all my votes and i think i'm wrong in doing so. As crokkon suggests above, 50/50 is active on new posts cause they will payout following the fork, but votes are still under the current rules until the fork.

Took me hours to sort things for all my accounts and so i'm not changing them back, and then again in 6 days!

I've done the same. Couldn't bother to change them back. Only done those for my main account, though (the Steemauto votes). I think I've set beempy to pick the best time to vote, but I'm not really sure I've completely figured out that feature yet.

I've asked a few people and no-one seems to know.

Lol, I don't know if I should think that is sad or funny....

If you voted after the first 5 (som 15) minutes you get penalized??? Why and in what way?

Only few can read a post that fast and decide if it is worth an upvote. My connection is low so I or the writer get penalized?

This means it is not true you can earn for 7 days. What if you use the steel bounty forever?

I cannot help but it feels as if there are more and more rules/exceptions as everyone knows... Feels like an insurance not willing to pay after the damage.

The rest of your post I find hard to understand.
Hope it all works out the way you expect or hope for.

As I understand it, the way it currently works is that if you vote before 15 minutes, then you lose some curation reward - the earlier you vote, the less curation you get. At some of the earliest minutes, you don't get any curation reward at all, it all goes to the author.
However, once 15 minutes has been reached, the earlier you vote, the more curation you earn, because if a bunch of people vote after you it's like your vote "recommended" the post as worthy of an upvote.
So, the most strategic time to vote on a post under the current system is right at the 15 minute mark, if you think it's going to earn a lot of votes.
Under the new system, that mark has been moved to 5 minutes, ostensibly to prevent from happening what @paulag mentioned - where people get to a post before 15 minutes and wait to upvote because they want curation rewards, but then forget to go back and vote it later.
But frankly, with my vote being worth two cents at these prices, who gives a poop unless you're a big fish earning lots on curation? If I earn 0.001 Steem or 0.002 Steem, or less? I don't know. I don't worry about it. It's an orca/whale problem.

Thanks for explaining. Neither am I a big fish and to be honest I have no intention to be one either.
So this is again some benefit for the big ones. If they automatically vote they can set the time when to do so.

You made me a bit wiser. I find it very complicated.

I look at Steem as: yes, I want to grow my account, but I also want to help other people grow their accounts. So if my vote comes in at 2 minutes or at 6 days and 10 hours - either way lessening any curation I might earn - meh. I'm happy to drop a couple of pennies in someone's jar without gaining a haepenny for myself. And unless your vote is worth LOTS, that's literally the amount of money we're talking about.

I want to grow enough to be ble to post and comment and vote and keep the 2 contests I am running alive. So I do need to earn a bit to do so.

Next I write some tips with my other account wakeupkitty.pal which hopefully help others on their way or to understand. Just made a small post about it, with my thanks to you.

It used to go to the author, but that changed to going back in the pool due to the advantage self voting gave.
This way trending gets most of those lost curation rewards, instead of the actual author that prompted the vote.

I am a curator... and sometimes need some reach in terms of new users... but I hate the resteem services full of bots no one want to follow. So, usually the best is to just hang around and talk to people that have the same interests and then maybe run some deals... with subsidiary percentages for example. Let me know if there’s causes you want to reach or if this is more towards tools and software area.

Cheers

I am also not a fan of resteem services and I agree the best is just to hang around and talk with people. there is not real 'case' such as tools and software, just entrepreneurs that were probably creating content off steem, that now use steem to move their business forward.

The 5 minutes is irrelevant apart from automatic votes as most of us won't even see a post in that window. I will continue to mostly vote manually. I have @tenkminnows auto voting people with my delegation and a spare account with delegated tribe tokens following what I do for posts with appropriate tags. I'm not too worried about how much I make from curation. I'm just trying to ensure my available votes are used.

I was going to suggest this one as well as it is the only one I automate to follow votes from!

Thanks, @paulag, for confirming the voting window goes down to 5 minutes. I had seen some mentions of that, but it seemed no one was sure about it.

That's one of the few things in HF21 I really welcome.

Previously I would try not vote before the 15 minutes but very often I would then forget to go back and give a vote to the post.

Happens all the time... :0)

Any chance you know about the voting window on the tribe sites? Maybe @abh12345 is the one to ask...

Need to find out more about that mobile keychain. I am using regular Keychain now, but Yandex isn't exactly my favorite mobile browser, tbh...

I have no idea about the voting winder on tribes @simplymike, sorry! but while I have you, do you have experience with writing press releases....im thinking of doing some and I dont know how?????

@simplymike - I downloaded the new version of Steem Wallet + Keychain. I appreciated the added functionality but my experience so far has not been consistent. Sometimes it works well. Others times, not so much. The mobile keychain forces you to use a web browser that is built into the program.

Thanks for the info, @sumatranate.
I came across the post this morning and I planned to keep it open in a tab, then forgot all about it until @paulag mentioned it here. Came across it again and got distracted again. Will take it for a test drive tomorrow morning.

@paulag - I had heard about the change from 15 mins to 5 mins. I think this will be good for people who regularly spend time in their feed. Not much change for people who don't.

Thanks for pointing out that the 50%/50% reward distribution change is essentially in effect since post payouts from here on out will take place after HF 21.

Lol I’ll be interesting to see how many call it quits, how many take to the new way of life and benefit and how many will be finding a way to abuse the new system

Only time will tell I suppose! Looks like we have plenty of work ahead of us

Those currently earning less than 80cent a post will leave I reckon. It will also be bad for those that post 10 times a day to self vote and vote farm where the payouts are low anyway. I'm happy to say bye bye to these

I'm excited to see the new Voting changes to go into effect in the next couple of weeks. Will we see a real change in the trending page and behavior of users?
For now I enjoy the fact that curation becomes more valuable than before. Lets hope that good content creators also profit from it, cheers!

I have no intention either of setting up a bunch of accounts for tribe voting and lowering my vote to make up for it. Voting should not be that complex and far too many people are over thinking it.

I just vote for what I enjoy consuming and want to see being continued to be produced. It’s just that simple!
