Hypebeasts Are Clamoring For "Jesus Shoes" Filled With Holy Water

avatar
(Edited)

Probably most of y'all have already read about this since people on Steemit are so trendy but for those who haven't this is an interesting phenomenon.

A design company in Brooklyn created a custom shoe by buying stock Nike Air Max 97's and turning them into their own creation.

The intent of the shoes is to poke fun at Collabs, which are collaborations between companies.

For instance, Arizona Ice Tea Company teamed up with Addidas and made colorful shoes, here's a few of them:

https___hypebeast.com_image_2019_07_adidas-originals-arizona-ice-tea-sneakers-continental-80-yung-1-release-information-1.jpg
source

This Brooklyn company is MSCHF which is a pretty clever name If we're supposed to pronounce it "mischief."

Anyway, I have no idea what's wrong with collabs and why they want to make fun of them but they decided to come up with their own collab...with Jesus Christ...which is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard of.

Why they didn't choose an earthly company like Arizona Ice Tea did was not explained.

People get to say they're walking on water

The guy heading up the project is Jewish so he didn't know anything about Jesus except that he walked on water. So they decided to fill the soles of the Nike's with actual water from the Jordan River.

They had to add blue coloring because the Jordan River isn't blue, it's brown or green, depending on different factors. But brown might be ugly so they made it blue. How we know it's actually water from the Jordan River is not known.

But the effect is nice:

img01.jpg
source

Don't you think? They're also scented with Frankincense and have a cross on the laces:

MSCHF-x-Nike-3-870x580.jpg
source

The water has supposedly been blessed by a priest so they claim that the water in the shoes is Holy Water. lol.

The deal with Hypebeasts

Hypebeasts are simply anyone going after the latest trends and fashion statements in clothing or shoes. And they snapped these shoes up instantly at about $1,400. They sold out in less than 60 seconds!

But the kicker is that buyers are reselling them on reseller sites for $4,000! And they're selling as fast as they put them up.

Which means there are people out there with more money than brains. At least that's my explanation for this thing.

It IS a nice looking show though, don't you think?

mschf-jesus-shoes.jpg
source

And if all that isn't enough, the shoebox has a classic painting of an angel(which I couldn't find an image of) and comes sealed with the official seal of the Vatican! So there ya go, a good investment don't you think? Yeah right.

Maybe if they only made 200 of them but I think they're still making some each week. If you want a pair you can try to pick them up here on this stockx.com page.

o1AJ9qDyyJNSpZWhUgGYc3MngFqoAMxodQF1jJNdfpHTCGove.png

MSCHF must be brilliant marketers or else they're just lucky. Or perhaps a bit of both. There's no way they knew the shoes were going to be this wildly popular.

If any of you out there are Hypebeasts it would be great to get your opinion!

And for the Faithful, is this sacrilegious or honorable? The actual shoes and presentation don't seem to be designed to mock.

Thanks for reading folks, God bless you all!

PS- Hey I'm sure everyone knows about the new Vegan Impossible Whopper from Burger King. It's been a huge success!

cip2un.jpg
source

But a Vegan in Florida is suing Burger King for false advertising because they claim the burger is 100% meat-free but they grill it on the same grill as the meat burgers.

He says he suffered monetary damages in the amount that he spent for the burger so he's suing for the cost of that burger! lol. The cheapest lawyer I know has a retainer fee of $500.

Settle for 10 bucks? lol.

I wonder what Burger King will do with this? And @lenasveganliving does he have a good case? He claims there were no signs indicating that the vegan burger would be cooked on the same grill as the meat burgers.

These vegan products are gaining tremendous popularity though. McDonalds is coming out with a vegan Big Mac and Pizza Hut is offering more and more vegan options.

lol..it's nuts sir enginewitty but I read several articles about these shoes and apparently people wearing them like to say they can walk on water. I don't know if it's just to get attention or what but they pay dearly to be able to say that!

Wow, never heard of such a thing, pretty good marketing scheme I suppose. There's no way to really tell if they're actually using Holy Water.

I think it caught them be surprise, I don't think they knew it was going to be insanely popular. Because it's too insane. lol.

I once stepped in chewing gum that had been spat out on the ground...I wonder who I could say that collab was with: Chewing gum company? City Council? Chewing gum spitter? The possibilities are endless.

Hi janton, got to love trends that clever marketeers think up. I can't believe the shoes are going for so much money on eBay etc. All I can say is Wow.

There are always people around who want to make lots of money through suing companies. Don't sweat the small stuff I say, lol.

I think the shoe sales are very impressive even if it was by pure luck. What was so funny about the Burger King lawsuit is that the guy was suing for the price of his burger! lol.

I know he is trying to get them to inform customers better about how the vegan burgers are prepared but good grief! The lawyers have to be laughing their heads off! Especially since the story got national news. I saw it on the evening news tonight!

By the way, are you a Hypebeast?

Hahaha, I have never heard of this term before janton, reminds me of the story - The Beauty and The Beast!'

That means the lawyers made a lot of money off this guy? Crazy.

I'd never heard the term either angiemitchell, it is an interesting label to have!

Yeah, those lawyers will probably make thousands before this is over, depending on whether they have some kind of court hearings.

NIKE will never be on my feet. And for many more reasons than just Kolon Keperprick. Their support of the Loony Leftists and the pulling and trashing of the american flag shoes. The constant sponsorship of Felons and Fools in sports. Etc etc.....

They were a class act 20 yrs ago with real sponsorships like Micheal Jordan. Even if they use communist chinese slave labor in sub human sweatshops..... DuckDuckGo.com search it....

Don't bother to F̶̷O̶̷N̶̷D̶̷L̶̷E̶̷ Google Yourself. Those search results have been altered, censored, bought and paid for by NIKE.

And search (Ddg.com) for a few Memes like these.

I think it's pretty entertaining that Kaepernick failed to get picked up after that workout session and now he's talking about doing another one but I don't think any team wants the headaches. I think he just wants a platform for his cause. Great memes!

so you'd be fine with the shoes if they'd used Aisics or anyone besides Nike?

I think the shoes were a hoot. Yes i think they were a great looking shoe, and yes it was to mock religion and profit from peoples stupidity.

But they are nothing that I would ever spend my hard fought for dollars on. I buy the china sweat shop $10 wally world shoes.

This is very interesting but honestly people are just weird sometimes. I must honestly say I prefer animals hahaha. I enjoyed reading your post. How are things in Texas. If we watch movies or series the people from Texas always seem so friendly.

Howdy today anneke! Yes, people are very weird but I find them entertaining too. lol. Texas is full of very friendly people at least in the rural areas.

Unfortunately the state is changing because we have over 1,000 people moving here each day, mostly from California and New York and they basically don't like the Texas culture so the culture is changing from down to earth with Godly values to more socialist and liberal thinking.

But away from the major cities, yes the people are loving, kind, caring and wonderful.

Crazy what people will pay for. There's a blogger on another site, well usually you can find him for the most part debating on the religious blogs, that often quotes that anybody can walk on water...you just have to freeze it first.

lol..well that statement is true, very clever. I think people are generally crazy don't you?

I think people have become indifferent, lacking the kind of compassion this country once had. There's still a lot of people who care but I think we've morphed more into more of a "me" society. Seems like people use to distinguish a cause of concern for the mentally handicapped but somehow those people get lost into the mix of people whom people want to blame them for their lack of success in life. Even at that though even the most basic educated use to be able to get a good job and thrive in this country, it wasn't until people started demanding the best of everything at the lowest possible price that labeling everybody in between as losers became excusable. I think it takes a whole lot of crazy to think that way towards those who came out the losers for their convenience.

Howdy today sunlit7! I agree, there seems to be a hardening of the hearts of more and more people. So many of the youth today expect everything handed to them and they actually believe they are entitled to everything without having to sacrifice and work for it. I don't know where that comes from but it sure ain't healthy!

Interesting post. I'm not sure what to think about the sneakers. I'd have to contemplate that for awhile. I think the collab thing is great in general. Puts some creativity and style back into our products. Something that has been lacking in my opinion.

You know my stand on the meatless highly processes high in salt "burgers" as I did a video on it showing the nutritional facts. Yes, meatless meals are coming but not just a vegetable alternative, more highly processes GMO based meals. Yuck. I'd rather stick to the original vegetarian/Vegan diet. You know, like the way Buddhist monks eat. I don't eat food made in a lab.

Really interesting post. Thanks much.

Howdy squirrelbait! So you found out that the meatless burgers weren't as healthy as people think right? I didn't see that video. Highly processed GMO meals..great. lol. That sounds about right!

I like the collab thing too and I think they are walking a fine line with the shoes!
So I take it you aren't a Hypebeast? lol.

A brilliant marketing scheme. I thought young people were shying away from the church but if they want to wear a cross on their shoes, kudos to them.

I paid around $100 for my last pair of sneakers and thought that was highway robbery but wanted them.

Oh so you ARE kindof a Hypebeast! lol. I think it's pretty hard to find them less than a hundred dollars these days. It DOES show that kids aren't afraid to openly wear crosses and Bible verses, it might even make some of them curious enough to look that verse up. That would be a shocker!

@dandays says “then they should be free” when I told him to listen and read him a portion of this post about “the Jesus Christ Nike collab”. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Also, as for the vegan “meats”, what in the heck is it anyway?! As you know we are vegan(ish) so definitely no meat of any kind (fish doesn’t count) but the hype on all of these “beyond meats” has me suspicious. We stick to an easy “all Whole Foods diet” so don’t need to worry too much about that for us personally. However, I’m not sure our government/powers that be would push something so hard without another agenda. I’d think twice before eating all of this beyond meat that clearly super trendy right now. Just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

Howdy puravidaville! lol..I agree that the shoes should be free. But then they wouldn't be highly sought after by the Hypebeasts. ha..

As far as the Impossible Burger, it's basically a soy burger. Here's the ingredients:

Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Potato Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Zinc Gluconate, Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.

Okay, a soy burger with a bunch of vitamins added. Researchers say the big companies are pushing these and similar products and that they're highly processed and totally GMO. I don't even think they allow any GMO foods in Europe.
So I completely agree with you!

Plus they get away with the “natural flavorings” caveat. So processed, it can’t be good for you. Then again, it’s become more of a struggle to find ANYTHING that isn’t processed in the U.S. Europe’s food is much cleaner, in fact that was one of the main things that impressed upon touching down here. The same Heinz ketchup has far less chemicals than the U.S. version. They are poisoning us @janton! Poisoning us (I scream). 🤡

I agree, it's very frustrating because they know so many of us want cleaner, less processed foods. Yeah, what does "natural flavorings" usually mean?

I’m all for the vegan thing, as you know. By the way, thanks for ending your article with Burger King, I never thought I’d say this but they’re he only business that made sense in this article.

I don’t wanna get carried away, @janton, as we all know I’m quite capable of, so I’ll just say if any of those shoes were even .01% legitimate, the creator of them would understand the predicament he got himself in by profiting from them.

What’s next, there’s gold bars at Fort Knox? Oh wait, I know!! Social Security isn’t the greatest Ponzi scheme ever created, right?

Great article, @janton, I had a tough time reading it and not throwing up in my mouth.

lol! Exactly the reaction I was hoping for sir dandays! Well, maybe not quite that extreme but I try not to post boring stuff. lol. I think they were just doing a one-off thing originally, to make a point.

But then when they found out the shoes were wildly popular they decided to make some money on them. And the guy in charge of them is Jewish and knows nothing about the Christian faith. Gotta satisfy those Hypebeasts!

Well, maybe they were directed at the priest market? They should have put more eyelets in, though. You know, where the laces go through? That way it would have been even more holey.

Hi @janton! The shoes do look nice but too rich for me and I can't wear Nike anymore because they are just too narrow for me. I think the Impossible burger guy should settle for the 10 bucks..lol. Every thing I read about it or heard about it stated that it was cooked on the same grill unless you stated you wanted it cooked separately when ordering. That was my first thought also when it first came out that it was being cooked on the same grill with meat burgers. I'll stick with a regular whopper but haven't even had one of those in probably a year so thanks...now I want a whopper..lol! 🍔 😁

lol! I made you want a Whopper! I agree, they're great but it's been years since I've had one. I didn't think being cooked on the same grill would make much difference but I guess if you are a very strict vegan then I understand. I bet Burger King makes their information about it more visible with signage.

I also bet that if the guy settles for the price of his burger that will be another news story. lol.

I am sad to say that I am not an Hypebeast... can't afford to be as I live on a Military Pension. Don't know that I would be if I were more wealthy. Just never have been the fashionista type. Guess it was years of wearing a uniform. Who can outdo Marine Corps Dress Blues?

I have undershorts over three years old and shop at thrift stores, for the most part, for my fashions. I do have one suit that I bought at Gabriel Brothers for one of my great-niece's High School graduation a couple of years ago.

Though I grew up and was, for many years, a very devout (and pompous) Christian; I do not see these sneakers being sacrilegious. Given, I am a convert to a faith very similar to and affiliated with the Jewish Faith, yet; I think that the Christian G-D is more than capable of taking care of Himself.

Hey, if people want to pay those prices for clothes and are able to afford them, good for them. Just not my thing.

Very interesting article. I am glad that @enginewitty shared it with us during the last #PYPT Show.
