Are You Still Waiting For Your Ship To Come In?

avatar

How about it, are you still waiting for your ship to come in? What does that even mean?

The phrase has been used for and originated hundreds of years ago when many people invested their money in merchant shipping. You could buy a share in a ship or its cargo. When the ship returned from it’s voyage around the world, the majority of the time you got your money back with a significant profit. However, there were a lot of risk involved in this venture, ships could be lost at sea from storms, accidents, or pirates and never return to port.

In those days, investors sent out multiple ships to increase the odds of getting a returning ship.

In modern times, many people never send out a ship in the first place, but will stay say they are waiting for their ship to come in. Most people fear taking a chance and are willing to be comfortable with very little. That’s OK, but that’s not waiting for your ship to come in. It more like just passing the time with wishful thinking that you should know will never be fulfilled.

You are only fooling yourself if you wait for your ship to come in but you never send out any ships in the first place. And that's OK too, because it just makes those sea lanes less crowded for the rest of us. Allow me to let you in on a little secret, there's a wide ocean out there with plenty of room for more ships.

Isn't it about time you launched a few ships?

you are so right @trafficinsider, I have been waiting a long time for my ship to come in but I have also sent ships out as many don't do as you said. Well, thanks to CTP I feel my ship is on it's way to return to port, finally after so many years. I looking for my return soon.
