#1 - The government is likely to present the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021 in Parliament during the Monsoon session that begins on July 19.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier this week said that they have done a lot of work on the bill and the Cabinet note is ready. She added that views, perspectives and feedback have been taken from stakeholders.
#2 - Ghana’s proposed central bank digital currency is similar to fiat cash and therefore financial institutions, as well as fintech start-ups, can still create value based on it, a Bank of Ghana (BOG) official has said. Still, the official, Maxwell Opoku-Afari, the BOG’s deputy governor, says approval for the use of the digital currency will depend on the outcome of the piloting phase.
