Cross Posting on Peakd/Hive | Are the numbers Up or Down

(Edited)

The Peakd team has been introducing more options on the platform and one of them has been the cross posting. It basically allows users to cross post between different communities. You can cross post your or someone else post. A short text for the cross post is also available, giving some short description on it.

On May 8th, a Peakd made a change that automatically declines rewards on a cross post, basically trying to prevent abuse.

Has this impacted the numbers of cross posts?
Let’s take look.

Number of Cross Posts

First let’s take a look at the number of cross posts per day starting from February 26 through May 25. There is a few cross posts before this date but it looks this feature becomes operational on February 26th.
Here is the chart.

02.png

The first days there was a spike in the number of cross posts reaching more than 130 cross posts per day and then it went down. Afterwards there was gradual increase in the numbers reaching 130 on May 6th.
The decline cross post rewards change (May 8th) is marked with the vertical line. It looks like the numbers of cross posts went slightly down but not as much. After the change, the average number of cross posts is around 80.
The overall trendline seems to be going down but will need a longer period to see how this goes.

Number of Unique Accounts Making Cross Posts

The above was the total number of cross posts. But how many accounts are actually making them? Is there a change in the number of accounts cross posting?

Here is the chart.

A similar patern hers as for the number of cross posts.
The number of authors making cross posts went up in the beginning and then down. Gradually increase in the next period to an 82 authors per day on April 29th. After the change on May 8th it went down to below 60. The down trend is a bit more clear than the overall number of cross posts.

Top 20 Account that made a cross post

Who is making the cross posts?
Here are the top 20 accounts that made cross post in the period.

Some high numbers by the top ones on the list 😊.

When made right, cross posts are a great way to reach more users and give exposure to authors. But when overdue its probably not the right way to do it.

Having more options and features on the platform is always nice but they need to be used properly. The Peakd team has now made an automatic decline of rewards for cross posts, that have slightly lowered the number of cross posts and authors making them. Cross posting now has the purpose of having greater exposure to the original author and post.

All the best

Cross-posting is a BS used for getting paid double, IMO

Yea ... you can look at it in that way :)

Automatic decline of rewards should lower this.
Although twitter has this tweet with comment feature, so I guess that is showing that people use it.

But from what I have seen most of the cross post are not adding any additional comment to the cross post, that is basically the same as a reblog. Only shared in a different community. Although at this level of development of communities it doesn't seems extremely important. But we will see how it goes. Give it some time.

if it's your content you should be able to distribute and gain from it, the platform doesn't own the content, does it? You can put the same video on youtube on your hive post and there is no issue there right? Yet, the same argument would apply if you did get paid for your video on youtube and you posted it on Dtube or Hive
