📷 In the Kingdom of mirrors

Have a nice day! The earliest artificial mirrors were made of polished volcanic vitreous stone — obsidian, which was found about 7500 years ago somewhere in the area of present-day Turkey. Later, silver and tin, copper and bronze were polished.

In ancient times, such decorations for the house were expensive, and only wealthy people could afford to have such a luxury. Today, the diversity is striking, and such a luxury is now a little surprise :-)

But the way to cover the glass with the thinnest layer of lead was invented only in 1279 by a certain Franciscan John Pecam.

In our time, mirrors where not only used, including decorative elements for interior decoration.

Flat mirrors were invented at the beginning of the XVI century by brothers Andrea Domenico. Their works were on mercury amalgam, and differed not only bright Shine, but also crystal transparency, purity.

This secret was carefully guarded in Venice. Many masters even moved to the remote island of Murano, where they became prisoners of such art.

And only during the reign of the French king Louis XIV was unraveled the secret of the Venetian mirrors. The king himself, according to historians, did not start his day, not to look at himself in the mirror :-)

Today, the mirrors are already making a variety of interior details, which are happy to decorate their apartments almost all the inhabitants of our planet.
