CREATING THINGS WITH MY HANDS GIVES ME JOY.

I've always loved art. Even though most of these things come naturally to me, the desire to acquire more knowledge runs deep. This made me to briefly learn sandals making when I was serving. Ever since I've been back from service,
its been art and bag and I feared I've lost my knowledge. Just to be sure i still remembered some things, i decided to make one. Below is the result.

Although I was not able to complete my training which i plan to soon, I'm still happy with the result I get so I decided to share it here.

The step is a simple and straightforward one. I used a primitive method though because I haven't bought most of the materials I needed. I had to improvise by using my feet as a Shoe Last for measurements.

  • I used my leg to make a size shape on a cardboard.
  • I used the shape to cut out the sole and the Nora (the sole on top).
  • I cut two shining leather pieces and gum with a stronger leather (they served as the sandal strips).
  • I fixed the shining leather to the Nora (using my leg as a guideline)and gum, roughened the sides I'll be guming on the Nora and sole with my filing machine ( to make the gum stay firm)and I gumed the Nora with the sole.
  • Finally I smoothen the edges with my filing machine.

Below are pics I took while filling the Soles and sides.
