Three Ideas for Novels that I’ll Never Write.

(Edited)

A washed-up minor league baseball pitcher named Clay Fellman arrives in 1935 Shanghai only to find that his older brother who had offered him a job with his import-export business is missing and nobody who Clay talks to will give him a straight answer regarding his brother’s whereabouts. The ensuing mystery entangles him in his brother’s involvement in gun running, Big-Eared Du’s Board of Opium Suppression Bureau, and with his brother’s White Russian girlfriend.

A science fiction novel set in 2048. The cryptocurrency revolution has changed everything. The fiat regime has imploded, nation-states have all but ceased to exist. The STEEM-powered space elevator has been operational for seven years, and over three million people live in earth orbit, with another million further out (Moon, Mars, Titan, etc.). The protagonist’s father has recently died and as the grieving daughter goes through her dad’s effects, she stumbles onto an old forgotten Bitcoin paper wallet. Using the private key, she’s stunned to learn that she now controls two and a half trillion Satoshis, a staggering windfall that makes her one of the wealthiest people in the solar system.

Revolution. A tyrant, a conspirator. The setting is an alternate history Earth where Germany won The Great War, the Kerensky government shot both Lenin and Trotsky, and the USA nearly disintegrated following the pandemic that killed a tenth of its population. President Huey Long has been in power for 23 years and has just told his Cabinet of his plans to invade Mexico, not knowing that the girlfriend of one of his staffers present is the daughter of the Mexican ambassador.

What the hell?

These are fairly good ideas and I could be convinced to read at least one of them.

You just showing off or teasing us?

Plenty of scope for great stories there. I know what you mean, though. Great ideas still don't write themselves.

Wonderful ideas. I particularly like the second and third, as I'm a sucker for scifi and alternate history......but why won't you write them?

I have never had any luck completing long-format fiction. Started novels at least a half-dozen times, all fizzled. Three attempts an NaNoWriMo, pffffft.

I will try again at some point, but the evidence so far suggests that shorter-formats are more my style.

Maybe I have a mild case of undiagnosed ADD. ;-)

Maybe you can do what I did. Try writing a few flash fiction style independent prequel chapters to one of these books. In the end you might find you have written the novel and the flash fiction has become chapters to your novel.

B.t.w, in my novel both fiat currency and crypro are gone, and the new currency is a universal printing base used by 3d printers.
