Viola day 27 - Eleanor Rigby

avatar

This one was a real doozy, Requested by @abigail-dantes. It conveniently had a slight culmination of previous things I'd been learning, including a position further down the neck, staccato and fingering patterns, string skipping, octaves and so on.

There was actually some sheet music online to start me off, though it's simple enough that it's not needed, I just feel it's necessary to get used to reading the alto/C clef:

I had some REAL trouble with parts of this. The higher ranges of the viola are real hard to prevent sounding like a whiny-ass violin, and going back and forth from the 'All the lonely people' bit to the chorus was a struggle that made my fingers panic to the point of no return, and anything following that had me all out of place and messed up.

That being said, I do feel much more comfortable on the whole playing various simpler melodies by comparison. One thing that definitely rings true is that giving your brain a few days rest can really help you consolidate the skills you've been learning. Sleeping on it is a legit way to improve.

Thank you very much @mobbs :)

I would not know what to do with a C clef before me! And that's one of the reasons why I think you handled this piece pretty well. I am sorry for the panic state your fingers underwent :P but, it was nice to hear my request was a means for you to practice some of the things you'd been learning <3

Oh! Also, thanks for new word: doozy.
:D

Heh I'm glad I can grow your vocab at the same time! Glad you think it went ok, all things considered, but it's been almost a month, I should be a pro by now!
