Interacting with the chipmunks and squirrels was a popular party entertainment this weekend!
And the rodents were thrilled to have hours worth of food available and they went out of their way to be entertaining!
There was a constant rotation of people wanting to pet chipmunks and have them eat out of their hands. The squirrels were a bit more wary of strangers.
Since they pack most of the seed they take away in their food storage holes, I am predicting they will not go hungry this winter!
The peanuts are supposed to be for the squirrels, but there are a few chipmunks that are very fond of them. Most of the chipmunks only want sunflower seeds.

They are so tame that you do have to watch where you step! One of the kids must have shared a bite of birthday cake with a chipmunk, because for a while there was a chipmunk running around in the backyard with blue and yellow frosting on his nose.
What an majestic animals. So cute. I would love to feed them and pet them as well. I love how trusting they were to let strangers pet them.

They are fun! I had to pass out socks because chipmunks do not have great eyesight and they tend to mistake toes for peanuts. They don't bite, but they do tug!

The kids love it! My friends 11 year old told me that it was his best day ever! Even the old folks were having a great time playing with the chipmunks!

My daughter has spent years getting them that way! It took a lot of time and effort on her part to get them to trust people.

They are definitely entertaining! Seeds and peanuts are a monthly budget item.
Based on a Chip and Dale book from my childhood about them at Mickey's zoo, and how they were stealing all the elephant's peanuts, I can attest that chipmunks do enjoy peanuts ;)

It is my back yard....particularly lush with all the rain we have had this summer.

Oh my goodness these are just the sweetest most adorable things full stop thanks so much for sharing they really put joy in my my heart. I love the way they stuff their little cheeks. We have cute wildlife in Australia but they are a little more shy and we aren't allowed to feed them because campers give them foods they shouldn't eat and they get sick full stop had a Beachside town near us we have heaps of cockatoos which are becoming real pests because people feed them full stop but I don't think it's the same with these adorable critters. To start with you are feeding them fish and chips lol . they are just adorable xx

Awwww... The chipmunks around our house would run in terror. Have they wreaked havoc on your garden this year? They are pretty cute, though, and photogenic. I bet you could train them in a limited sort of way, if you wanted to :-)
You could easily train them to do most anything, as long as it involved seeds or nuts!
haha! Those little chipmunks don't care who feeds them as long as there's food there! I never knew that they were so tame until you started talking about it, unless it's just yours who are.
I love these photos! Do you have a fence behind all that foliage or does that just go to the creek?
It has taken my daughter a few years to get the chipmunks to be that trusting. Usually they are terrified of people.
Just 20 yrds or so behind the foliage is the river. I like the privacy it gives me during the summer from the boat traffic, and when the leaves fall from the trees and it's too cold to water ski I get to enjoy the river again!

I made some pulled pork today, and the recipe I used called it Texas Pulled Pork. I thought of you. I think the only thing that makes it different is that it is supposed to be served on buttered, toasted buns. It sure smells good!
Oh that's a wonderful sandwich, that was one of our specialties at the BBQ joint I worked at, the pork was smoked for hours. So those chipmunks are great sport for Ransom...do you think it's a game to him or would he kill them if he could catch them?
I think it turned out OK. I'm going to freeze some for easy meals later.

Well if it was Jack he would so I'm sure Ransom is the same way. Might not eat him though but it'd be natural to kill them.

It's not me, it's my daughter! She even brings her own bags of peanuts! And I suspect you are right!
